To determine whether disturbances of CO homeostasis alter force output characteristics of lower limb muscles, participants performed four isometric knee extension trials (MVC, 10 s each with 20-s rest intervals) in three CO conditions (normocapnia [NORM], hypercapnia [HYPER], and hypocapnia [HYPO]). Respiratory frequency and tidal volume were matched between CO conditions. In each MVC, the participants exerted a constant force (30 % of maximum voluntary contraction [MVC]). The force coefficient of variation (Fcv) during each MVC and MVC before and after the four MVC trials were measured. For the means of the four trials, Fcv was significantly lower in HYPER than in HYPO. However, within HYPER, a significant positive correlation was found between the increase in end-tidal CO partial pressure and the increase in Fcv. MVCs in NORM and HYPO decreased significantly over the four trials, while no such reduction was observed in HYPER. These results suggest that perturbed CO homeostasis influences the force output characteristics independently of breathing pattern variables.

Blood pressure (BP) is one of the vital physiological parameters, and its measurement is done routinely for almost all patients who visit hospitals. Cuffless BP measurement has been of great research interest over the last few years. In this paper, we aim to establish a method for cuffless measurement of BP using ultrasound.

Background: This study examined the relationship between the disciplinary diversity of research teams and research output (RO) in allergy and immunology programs funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States, Medical Research Council (MRC) in the United Kingdom, and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).
Methods: Using a dataset containing 1243, 3645, and 1468 articles funded by the NIH, MRC, and JSPS, respectively, we analyzed the correlation between disciplinary diversity and RO in allergy and immunology programs that received grants from 2017 to 2021. Diversity was measured using All Science Journal Classification codes counts, Shannon-Wiener index, and newly developed Omnidisciplinary index (o-index).

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of linear sprint training (LST) compared to curvilinear sprint training (CST) using an equivalent session training volume, on linear (LS) and curvilinear (CS) sprint performance, horizontal force-velocity profile, and change of direction (COD) ability in young soccer players. In a randomized pre-post parallel-group trial design, nineteen U16 male soccer players were randomly assigned to LST (n = 9) and CST (n = 10) groups. Both groups performed 11 sprint training sessions over 6 weeks.

Rock climbing requires specific hand positions with high force outputs to adapt to changing terrain requirements. The purpose of this study was to explore associations between years of climbing experience, the frequency of training, and skill level on force production in 2 different climbing-specific hand positions.

Mechanical stresses, including compression, arise during cancer progression. In solid cancer, especially breast and pancreatic cancers, the rapid tumor growth and the environment remodeling explain their high intensity of compressive forces. However, the sensitivity of compressed cells to targeted therapies remains poorly known.
