Imaging in Interventional Radiology: 2043 and Beyond.

Since its inception in the early 20th century, interventional radiology (IR) has evolved tremendously and is now a distinct clinical discipline with its own training pathway. The arsenal of modalities at work in IR includes x-ray radiography and fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, US, and molecular and multimodality imaging within hybrid interventional environments. This article briefly reviews the major developments in imaging technology in IR over the past century, summarizes technologies now representative of the standard of care, and reflects on emerging advances in imaging technology that could shape the field in the century ahead. The role of emergent imaging technologies in enabling high-precision interventions is also briefly reviewed, including image-guided ablative therapies.

Immunogenic cell death (ICD)-mediated immunization strategies have great potential against breast cancer. However, traditional strategies neglect the increase in the immunosuppressive metabolite, adenosine (ADO), during ICD, leading to insufficient therapeutic outcomes. Transarterial embolization (TAE) is an image-guided, minimally invasive procedure for treating various clinical conditions by delivering embolic agents to occlude diseased arteries. Conventional embolic agents focus on vessel occlusion but can cause unintended long-term inflammation and ischemia in healthy tissues. Next-generation embolic agents must exhibit biocompatibility, biodegradability, and effective drug delivery, yet some degradable microspheres degrade too quickly, leading to the potential migration of fragments into distal blood vessels causing off-target embolization.

Background: In COPD patients with severe right-sided emphysema, complete major and incomplete minor fissure, implantation of one-way valves in both the right upper (RUL) and middle lobes (ML) is a possible approach for endoscopic lung volume reduction. The aim of this retrospective analysis was to evaluate the response to therapy and the complication rate at 90 days (90d-FU) after combined RUL-ML valve implantation.
