We assessed the quality of food-related OpenStreetMap (OSM) data in urban areas of five European countries. We calculated agreement statistics between point-of-interests (POIs) from OSM and from Google Street View (GSV) in five European regions. We furthermore assessed correlations between exposure measures (distance and counts) from OSM data and administrative data from local data sources on food environment data in three European countries. Agreement between POI data in OSM compared to GSV was poor, but correlations were moderate to high between exposures from OSM and local data sources. OSM data downloaded in 2020 seems to be an acceptable source of data for generating count-based food exposure measures for research in selected European regions.

P53 and Ki67 Biomarkers are Predictors for Malignant Transformation in Oral Submucous Fibrosis: A Prospective Study.

Asian Pac J Cancer Prev

December 2024

Department of Periodontology, HKDET'S Dental College, Hospital and Reaserch Institute, Humnadad, Karnataka, India.

Objectives: Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a potentially malignant disorder (PMD) characterized by a high rate of malignant transformation (MT). OSMF exhibits atrophic epithelium yet has a high proliferation rate. Both p53 and Ki67 are nuclear proteins associated with cell proliferation, detectable in the early stages of oral cancer (OC).

(1) Background: Alpine skiing, with its long history, has experienced numerous innovations and developments on all levels ranging from technology to fashion over the past 120 years. However, teaching approaches for beginners remained quite consistent for many decades and are mainly grounded in experience. The One-Ski-Method (OSM) is an alternative approach to the predominant snowplow (SP) method with the strategy to initially experience and acquire the elementary positions and actions on one ski in order to subsequently transfer these to two skis.

Bridging the Gap: An Algorithmic Framework for Vehicular Crowdsensing.

Sensors (Basel)

November 2024

Department of Computer Science, Florida Polytechnic University, Lakeland, FL 33805, USA.

In this paper, we investigate whether greedy algorithms, traditionally used for pedestrian-based crowdsensing, remain effective in the context of vehicular crowdsensing (VCS). Vehicular crowdsensing leverages vehicles equipped with sensors to gather and transmit data to address several urban challenges. Despite its potential, VCS faces issues with user engagement due to inadequate incentives and privacy concerns.

Background: Patients with Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) currently lack targeted therapies, and consequently face higher mortality rates when compared to patients with other breast cancer subtypes. The tumor microenvironment (TME) cytokine Oncostatin M (OSM) reprograms TNBC cells to a more stem-like/mesenchymal state, conferring aggressive cancer cell properties such as enhanced migration and invasion, increased tumor-initiating capacity, and intrinsic resistance to the current standards of care. In contrast to OSM, Interferon-β (IFN-β) promotes a more differentiated, epithelial cell phenotype in addition to its role as an activator of anti-tumor immunity.

In this study, we used a three-dimensional airway "organ tissue equivalent" (OTE) model at an air-liquid interface (ALI) to mimic human airways. We investigated the effects of three viruses (Influenza A virus (IAV), Human metapneumovirus (MPV), and Parainfluenza virus type 3 (PIV3) on this model, incorporating various control conditions for data integrity. Our primary objective was to assess gene expression using the NanoString platform in OTE models infected with these viruses at 24- and 72-hour intervals, focusing on 773 specific genes.
