Published: July 2023

The asymmetric α-allylation of α-aryl-substituted 2-acetyl imidazoles synergistically catalyzed by Ni/Pd catalysts has been developed. In this process, the nickel-bisoxazoline complex activates the enolate of an acetyl imidazole, which then reacts with a π-allyl palladium electrophile generated from an allyl alcohol derivative by a palladium-based catalyst. A broad scope of substrates was suitable for this reaction. The utility of this method was demonstrated by a gram-scale reaction and subsequent elaboration of the allylation products.

In the domain of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), the development of efficient and durable catalysts for the electro-oxidation of small organic molecules, especially of alcohols (methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycol, et al.) has always been a hot topic. A large number of related electrocatalysts with splendid performance have been designed and synthesized till now, while the preparation processes of most of them are demanding on experimental operations and conditions.

Using Ni as a template and reductant, Ni core-Pd shell nanoparticles (Ni@Pd NPs) supported on KIT-6 (Ni@Pd/K6) were prepared by a galvanic replacement reaction under ultrasonic radiation. The characterization results show that the Ni@Pd core-shell NPs with an average diameter of 1.9 ± 0.

This study reports first principles calculations performed to study the electronic structure and catalytic activity of exsolved Ni on Pd core-shell catalysts reported in recent experimental literature. The modification in the electronic and geometric properties of the Ni/Pd bimetallic system as successive layers of Ni are added on top of Pd is systematically investigated using the d-band model as well as the adsorption of O and CO on the surface of these core-shell structures. The results show that the adsorption of O and CO is more favourable on Ni/Pd core-shell catalysts compared to the pure Ni surface.

Hydrogen gas production can be produced from dimethylamine borane by the catalytic effect of metal nanoparticles. Past research efforts were heavily focused on dehydrogenation in organic solvents. In this study, hydrolysis of the borane in aqueous solutions was investigated, which bears two significant advantages: that two-thirds of the hydrogen generated originate from water and that the hydrogen storage materials are non-flammable.
