Published: October 2023

Definitive radiation therapy is an effective local treatment for several cutaneous malignancies. Patients with diffuse or generalized skin manifestations might require total skin electron beam therapy (TSEBT) as an alternative treatment to the chasing technique. In this short communication, we highlight the evolving role of TSEBT and present its role in various forms of skin malignancies.

Unlabelled: Sarcoidosis is a multisystemic syndrome characterized by non-caseous granulomatous inflammation, although necrotizing sarcoid granulomatosis is considered part of the spectrum of the disease. Drug induced sarcoidosis-like reaction (DISR) is a systemic granulomatous reaction, which is histopathologically identical to primary sarcoidosis - mostly described after the use of biologics like tumour necrosis factor alpha antagonists but also anti-CD20 (rituximab). The authors present the very rare case of a woman with a primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) started on rituximab for disease control, which evolved with a 3-year indolent progressive systemic sarcoid reaction.

Background: With advancements in minimally invasive thoracic surgery techniques, such as video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery and robotic surgery, the design of vascular staplers has evolved to meet the requirements of these procedures. Consequently, newer generations of automatic staplers with improved handling and reduced size have been introduced, such as two-row staplers, which are more maneuverable and less bulky than their three-row counterparts.

Case Presentation: A 68-year-old man with lung cancer underwent a right middle and lower lobectomy due to tumor invasion into the central middle bronchial trunk, rendering the preservation of the middle lobe impossible.

RNA dysregulation in neurodegenerative diseases.

EMBO J

January 2025

Department of Physiology, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD, 21205, USA.

Dysregulation of RNA processing has in recent years emerged as a significant contributor to neurodegeneration. The diverse mechanisms and molecular functions underlying RNA processing underscore the essential role of RNA regulation in maintaining neuronal health and function. RNA molecules are bound by RNA-binding proteins (RBPs), and interactions between RNAs and RBPs are commonly affected in neurodegeneration.

The role of ribosomal protein networks in ribosome dynamics.

Accurate protein synthesis requires ribosomes to integrate signals from distant functional sites and execute complex dynamics. Despite advances in understanding ribosome structure and function, two key questions remain: how information is transmitted between these distant sites, and how ribosomal movements are synchronized? We recently highlighted the existence of ribosomal protein networks, likely evolved to participate in ribosome signaling. Here, we investigate the relationship between ribosomal protein networks and ribosome dynamics.

Wintering loons in South Korea face an ongoing threat from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons: Shifting sources and potential DNA damage.

Environ Pollut

January 2025

Department of Biological Sciences, College of Natural Sciences, Chonnam National University, 77 Yongbong-ro, Buk-gu, Gwangju 61186, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Diving birds, particularly those sharing coastal habitats with fishing grounds, are at risk from oil pollution. Despite documented cases of bird mortality, the specific role of oil pollution in these death remains unclear. To address this knowledge gap, this study examined polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) contamination, its sources, and its impact on loon health.
