This paper presents a novel probabilistic machine learning (PML) framework to estimate the Brillouin frequency shift (BFS) from both Brillouin gain and phase spectra of a vector Brillouin optical time-domain analysis (VBOTDA). The PML framework is used to predict the Brillouin frequency shift (BFS) along the fiber and to assess its predictive uncertainty. We compare the predictions obtained from the proposed PML model with a conventional curve fitting method and evaluate the BFS uncertainty and data processing time for both methods. The proposed method is demonstrated using two BOTDA systems: (i) a BOTDA system with a 10 km sensing fiber and (ii) a vector BOTDA with a 25 km sensing fiber. The PML framework provides a pathway to enhance the VBOTDA system performance.

The 2020 mass mortality of 350 African elephants (Loxodonta africana) in Botswana sparked global concern, with cyanotoxins in watering holes (pans) being a suspected cause, though evidence remains inconclusive. Combining remote sensing and spatial analysis, we examined the relationship between the ecohydrology of ∼3000 pans and the locations of deceased elephants. Our analysis revealed a significant difference in the spatial distribution of fresh versus decayed carcasses (p < 0.

Heterochromatin is a pivotal element in the functional organization of genomes. In our study, we delve into the heterochromatin pattern of association by the PML (promyelocytic leukemia) protein. By using PML chromatin immunoprecipitation and sequencing data and comparing computational methodologies to depict PML chromatin association, we describe PML-associated domains or PADs as large heterochromatic regions that exhibit similar genomic features across cancer cell lines.

CD19-directed chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR T) therapies, including axicabtagene ciloleucel (axi-cel), tisagenlecleucel (tisa-cel), and lisocabtagene maraleucel (liso-cel), have transformed the treatment landscape for B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma, showcasing significant efficacy but also highlighting toxicity risks such as cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS). The US Food and Drug Administration has mandated patients remain close to the treatment center for 4 weeks as part of a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy to monitor and manage these toxicities, which, although cautious, may add to cost of care, be burdensome for patients and their families, and present challenges related to patient access and socioeconomic disparities. This retrospective study across 9 centers involving 475 patients infused with axi-cel, tisa-cel, and liso-cel from 2018 to 2023 aimed to assess CRS and ICANS onset and duration, as well as causes of nonrelapse mortality (NRM) in real-world CAR T recipients.

Partial multilabel learning (PML) addresses the issue of noisy supervision, which contains an overcomplete set of candidate labels for each instance with only a valid subset of training data. Using label enhancement techniques, researchers have computed the probability of a label being ground truth. However, enhancing labels in the noisy label space makes it impossible for the existing partial multilabel label enhancement methods to achieve satisfactory results.
