The psychoanalytic literature until recently was focused on the task of understanding and conceptualizing motherhood as 'not secondary' (to the girl's wish for the penis) but the central organizer of the woman's sexual drive. Pregnancy was viewed as a developmental crisis but little had been written on the internal shifts and realignments in the mental organization of the woman during pregnancy. Material from the analyses of three women during their first pregnancy is discussed and some theoretical conclusions are offered.

We are witnessing an ongoing global biodiversity crisis, and an increasing number of mammalian populations are at risk of decline. Species that have survived severe historic bottlenecks, such as the cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) exhibit symptoms of inbreeding depression including reproductive and developmental defects. Although it has long been suggested that such defects stem from an accumulation of weakly deleterious mutations, the implications of such mutations leading to pseudogenization has not been assessed.

Addressing adolescent mental health care across sub-Saharan Africa faces numerous challenges, including underfunded public health systems, a shortage of mental health professionals, barriers to access, and pervasive stigma. Untreated adolescents often experience worsening symptoms, academic and social difficulties, physical health risks, and engage in risky behaviours. Early detection and appropriate treatment of common mental health conditions can support adolescents in developing robust social and emotional foundations and enhancing their mental well-being.

Gender-based violence (GBV) refers to a specific form of interpersonal violence that is rooted in gender inequities and unequal distribution of power. GBV is defined as any type of violence, including physical, sexual, psychological, and economic, perpetrated against individual(s) based on actual or perceived gender, gender identity, gender expression, sex or sex characteristics, sexual orientation, or divergence from social norms on masculinity and femininity. Cisgender (cis) and transgender (trans) women and girls of all ages, including adolescents and young adults (AYAs) of ages 10-24 years, disproportionately experience GBV.
