The reactions between catechol (Hcat) and niobium(V) or tantalum(V) precursors in basic aqueous solutions lead to the formation of catecholate complexes of different natures. The following complexes were isolated and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD): () (NH)[NbO(cat)]∙4HO; () K[Nb(cat)(Hcat)]·2Hcat·2HO; () Cs[NbO(cat)]·HO; () (NH)[TaO(cat)]·3HO; () Cs[Ta(cat)(Hcat)]·Hcat; () Cs[TaO(cat)]·7HO. The isolated crystalline products were characterized by elemental analysis, X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), FTIR, and TGA. The structural features of these complexes, such as {TaO} unit geometry, Cs-π interactions, and crystal packing effects, are discussed.

Life after Stroke in an Urban Minority Population: A Photovoice Project.

Int J Environ Res Public Health

March 2017

Center of Health Equity and Community Engaged Research at Mount Sinai, Department of Population Health Science and Policy, Icahn School at Mount Sinai, One Gustave L. Levy Place, New York, NY 10029, USA.

Stroke is a leading cause of disability in the United States and disproportionately affects minority populations. We sought to explore the quality of life in urban, minority stroke survivors through their own photos and narratives. Using the Photovoice method, seventeen stroke survivors were instructed to take pictures reflecting their experience living with and recovering from stroke.

Rates of steady oxygen-isotope exchange differ in interesting ways for two sets of structural oxygens in the [HxTa6O19](8-x)-(aq) Lindqvist ion when compared to published data on the [HxNb6O19]8-x(aq) version. Because of the lanthanide contraction, the [HxTa6O19](8-x)-(aq) and [HxNb6O19](8-x)-(aq) ions are virtually isostructural and differ primarily in a full core (Kr vs Xe) and the 4f14 electrons in the [HxTa6O19](8-x)-(aq) ion. For both molecules, both pH-dependent and -independent pathways are evident in isotopic exchange of the 12 mu2-O(H) and 6 eta=O sites.
