Although selective singlet and triplet interlayer exciton (IX) emission of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMD) heterostructures can be achieved by applying an electric or magnetic field, the device structure is complex and a low temperature is usually required. Here, we demonstrate a simple all-optical approach to selectively enhance the emission of singlet and triplet IX by selectively coupling singlet or triplet IX of a WS/WSe heterostructure to a SiO microsphere cavity. Angle-resolved photoluminescene reveals that the transition dipole of triplet IX is almost along the out-of-plane direction, while singlet IX only has 69% out-of-plane dipole moment contribution. Since the out-of-plane dipole presents a higher Purcell factor within the cavity, we can simultaneously enhance the emission intensity of IX and control the emissive IX species at room temperature in an all-optical route. Importantly, we demonstrate an all-optical valley polarization switch with a record high on/off ratio of 35.

Photophysical properties of condensed systems generally originate from collective contributions of all components in their stochastically fluctuated structures and are strongly influenced under strain of chromophores. To precisely identify how the stochastically fluctuated monomers synergistically manipulate the properties, we propose a statistic strategy over sufficient ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) samplings and for the first time uncover that synergistic oscillatory twisting (SOT) of neighboring under-strain monomers manipulates the bifunction of rubrene crystal.  The under-strain trunk SOT can regulate both singlet fission (SF) and triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA), enabling their coexistence and dominance switching by dynamically modulating the matching of excitation energies.

The Josephson diode effect (JDE), characterized by asymmetric critical currents in a Josephson junction, has drawn considerable attention in the field of condensed matter physics. We investigate the conditions under which JDE can manifest in a one-dimensional Josephson junction composed of a spin-orbit-coupled quantum wire with an applied Zeeman field, connected between two superconductors (SCs). Our study reveals that while spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and a Zeeman field in the quantum wire are not sufficient to induce JDE when the SCs are purely singlet, introduction of triplet pairing in the SCs leads to the emergence of JDE.

Coherent manipulation of photochemical spin-triplet formation in quantum dot-molecule hybrids.

The interconversion between singlet and triplet spin states of photogenerated radical pairs is a genuine quantum process, which can be harnessed to coherently manipulate the recombination products through a magnetic field. This control is central to such diverse fields as molecular optoelectronics, quantum sensing, quantum biology and spin chemistry, but its effect is typically fairly weak in pure molecular systems. Here we introduce hybrid radical pairs constructed from semiconductor quantum dots and organic molecules.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluates different DFT and TD-DFT methods for simulating ultrafast excited-state dynamics in Fe(II) complexes.
  • The research uses time-resolved X-ray emission spectroscopy data from specific iron complexes to benchmark simulation results between metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (MLCT) and metal-centered (MC) states.
  • Findings suggest that the choice of DFT/TD-DFT method significantly impacts simulation accuracy, with B3LYP* and TPSSh performing best in matching experimental dynamics.

[n]Peri-acenes ([n]PA) have attracted great interest as promising candidates for nanoelectronics and spintronics. However, the synthesis of large [n]PA (n > 4) is extremely challenging due to their intrinsic open-shell radical character and high reactivity. Herein, we report the successful synthesis and isolation of a derivative (1) of peri-hexacene in crystalline form.
