The bis(iminoxolene)iridium complex (Diso)IrCl (Diso = -(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-4,6-di--butyl-2-imino--benzoquinone) reacts with pyridine to give -(Diso)Ir(py)Cl as the kinetic product, with -(Diso)Ir(py)Cl formed as the exclusive thermodynamic product upon heating. Electronic spectra and density functional theory calculations point to very similar electronic structures for the cis and trans isomers, with a nonbonding iminoxolene-centered HOMO and a metal-iminoxolene π* LUMO. The triplet states of -(Diso)Ir(py)Cl and -[(Diso)Ir(py)] (but not -(Diso)Ir(py)Cl) are unusually low in energy (1000-1500 cm above the singlets), as shown by variable-temperature NMR spectroscopy. The low-energy triplets are attributed to a change in dihedral angle in the iminoxolenes, which allows a partial π interaction that cannot be achieved in the trans octahedral compounds. Mechanistic studies of the trans-cis isomerization in toluene indicate that the reaction proceeds via isomerization of the five-coordinate species to a form with cis iminoxolene ligands and an apical oxygen. This form is high in energy due to the loss of a secondary iminoxolene-to-iridium π-donor interaction that is possible in the trans form but not in the cis form for the square pyramidal structures. This stereoelectronic effect, combined with the poorer binding of pyridine in -(Diso)Ir(py)Cl due to the interactions of the -aryl substituents with the pyridine, makes the pyridine dissociate faster from the trans isomer by a factor of 10 at room temperature.

Two-dimensional (2D) room-temperature chiral multiferroic and magnetic topological materials are essential for constructing functional spintronic devices, yet their number is extremely limited. Here, by using the chiral and polar HPP (HPP = 4-(3-hydroxypyridin-4-yl)pyridin-3-ol) as an organic linker and transition metals (TM = Cr, Mo, W) as nodes, we predict a class of 2D TM(HPP) organometallic nanosheets that incorporate homochirality, room-temperature magnetism, ferroelectricity, and topological nodes. The homochirality is introduced by chiral HPP linkers, and the change in structural chirality induces a topological phase transition of Weyl phonons.

Clinically uncommon, this condition can involve the entire gastrointestinal tract, often presenting diagnostic challenges in differentiation from Crohn's disease.
Methods: In this case, atypical BD was diagnosed through endoscopic examination, whereas latent tuberculosis infection (LBTI) was confirmed via T-SPOT and PPD tests.

Background: On demand, topical PrEP is desired by those preferring episodic, nonsystemic PrEP. PC-1005 gel (MIV-150, zinc, and carrageenan) exhibits in vitro antiviral HIV-1, human papillomavirus (HPV), and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) activity, attractive for a multipurpose prevention technology candidate. We evaluated the safety, pharmacokinetics, and antiviral effect of rectally applied PC-1005.

The photophysical properties of six new luminescent tetrahedral Zn(II) complexes are presented that survey two electronic donor moieties (phenolate and carbazolate) and three electronic acceptors (pyridine, pyrimidine, and pyrazine). A unique ligand based on an -terphenyl motif forms an eight-membered chelate, which enhances through-space charge-transfer (CT) interactions by limiting through-bond conjugation between the donor and acceptor. A single isomeric product was obtained in yields up to 90%.

Ethylenediamine (EDA), as an important chemical raw material and fine chemical intermediate, has been widely applied in various industries. Real-time monitoring of EDA is highly desirable in daily life due to its potential threat to human health. Herein, we report a molecular probe named 4,4'-(9-carbazole-3,6-diyl)bis(1-(naphthalen-2-ylmethyl)pyridin-1-ium) iodide (p-N-DPC·I) with ratiometric luminescent and colorimetric dual-mode responses toward EDA, endowing a highly sensitive and selective detection method for its real-time monitoring.
