General anesthesia is often required in elasmobranch species for medical procedures. A variety of anesthetic drugs have been administered to elasmobranchs with wide variability in efficacy and safety. A retrospective review of 47 anesthetic procedures using IV propofol in eight different elasmobranch species at the Georgia Aquarium from 2010 to 2022 was performed. Cases involving seven sand tiger sharks (), four largetooth sawfish (), one longcomb sawfish (), four blacktip reef sharks (), three silvertip sharks ( one sandbar shark (), five cownose rays (), and one blotched fantail stingray () were evaluated. Induction dose of IV propofol (median: 2.5; 25-75%: 2.3-3.0; range: 1.7-4.0 mg/kg), time to desired effect (median: 4.0; 25-75%: 2.0-5.0; range: 0.5-15.0 min) and anesthetic duration (median: 76.0; 25-75%: 61.5-119.0; range: 27-216 min) were reported in all species. In six procedures (12.7%), maintenance of desired anesthetic plane required a supplemental dose of propofol IV (1 mg/kg) or addition of tricaine methanesulfonate (70 mg/L) as an immersion bath. The most common side effects were apnea and prolonged recovery. The IV propofol was efficacious and provided a procedural plane of anesthesia for a clinically relevant period of time in the majority of elasmobranch species, but observation for and management of complications is warranted.

Unlabelled: A new lower tooth plate of from the Turonian (Upper Cretaceous) of the Dalmatian region (southern Croatia) is documented here for the first time. The specimen represents the first articulated dentition of a ptychodontid shark that has been discovered from the Balkan Peninsula and the most complete ever found for the un-cuspidate species up to now. The reconstruction of the entire lower dentition of based on this exceptionally well-preserved dentition shows a wider crushing plate than previously hypothesised with bulgy teeth limited to the central area.

We have designed and produced 39 amino acid peptide mimics of the and human acetylcholine receptors' (AChRs) main immunogenic regions (MIRs). These conformationally sensitive regions consist of three non-contiguous segments of the AChR α-subunits and are the target of 50-70% of the anti-AChR autoantibodies (Abs) in human myasthenic serum and in the serum of rats with a model of that disease, experimental autoimmune myasthenia gravis (EAMG), induced by immunizing the rats with the electric organ AChR. These MIR segments covalently joined together bind a significant fraction of the monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) raised in rats against electric organ AChR.

In South Africa, it is commonly found along the entire south and east coasts, including the iSimangaliso Wetland Park (IWP) in the far north, which is the largest Marine Protected Area on the South African coast. Pregnant females occur there for much of the year, with the largest aggregations in summer.
