Published: May 2024

Objectives: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of carbon dioxide (CO) laser vaporisation versus intralesional injection of triamcinolone acetonide (TA) in the management of oral lichen planus (OLP).

Methods: A randomised clinical trial with a split-mouth design was conducted on 16 patients with bilateral symptomatic OLP lesions. One side was treated with CO laser vaporisation, and the counterpart was treated with TA intralesional injection. The reticular-erythematous-ulcerative (REU) score, Thongprasom sign scoring (TSS), visual analogue scale (VAS) and lesion area were used to evaluate the lesions at weeks 0, 4 and 9. All participants were followed up for 9 months.

Results: Reduction in the REU, TSS scores and lesion area from baseline to the end of treatment was significantly greater in the CO group than in the TA group (p values were 0.001, 0.002 and 0.048 respectively). However, the reduction in VAS score did not differ between the two groups (p = 0.54). The recurrence rate was significantly higher in the TA group than in the CO group (75% vs. 31.1%; p = 0.016).

Conclusions: CO laser vaporisation was more effective than TA intralesional injection in managing OLP and decreased recurrence rates.

Background: Most cerebrovascular lesions are aggravated by dementia. This study examines the possibility of reducing dementia by stimulating cerebral angiogenesis and neurogenesis using Transcatheter Intracerebral Laser Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT) in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), distal cerebral atherosclerosis, Binswanger's disease (BD), and vascular parkinsonism (VP).

Methods: The study included 404 patients with dementia, aged 29-81 (mean age 78).

High throughput intracellular delivery of biological macromolecules is crucial for cell engineering, gene expression, therapeutics, diagnostics, and clinical studies; however, most existing techniques are either contact-based or have throughput limitations. Herein, we report a light-activated, contactless, high throughput photoporation method for highly efficient and viable cell transfection of more than a million cells within a minute. We fabricated reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanoflakes that was mixed with a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) nanocomposite thin sheet with an area of 3 cm and a thickness of ∼600 μm.

Developing new drug delivery systems is crucial for enhancing the efficacy of oncolytic virus (OV) therapies in cancer treatment. In this study, mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-derived vesicles and oncolytic viruses are exploited to construct a novel formulation. It has been hypothesized that vesicle-coated OVs could amplify cytotoxic effects through superior internalization by tumor cells.

Aim: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of combined laser and anti-VEGF therapy for (retinopathy of prematurity ROP), focusing on both structural and functional outcomes.

Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in multiple databases to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that investigated combination therapy for ROP. The PRISMA guidelines were followed.

Objective: To investigate the impact of music on patient tolerance during office-based laryngeal surgery (OBLS).

Methods: All patients undergoing OBLS between February 2024 to June 2024 were invited to participate in this study. They were divided into two subgroups, those with music in the background during surgery and those without.
