Thin films of NaNbO were grown on various substrates to investigate the effect of epitaxial strain on their structural and electrical properties. Reciprocal space maps confirmed the presence of epitaxial strain from +0.8% to -1.2%. A bulk-like antipolar ground state was detected via structural characterization for NaNbO thin films grown with strains ranging from a compressive strain of 0.8% to small tensile strains, up to -0.2%. For larger tensile strains on the other hand, no indication of antipolar displacements can be detected, even beyond the relaxation of the film at larger thicknesses. Electrical characterization revealed a ferroelectric hysteresis loop for thin films under a strain of +0.8% to -0.2%, while the films under larger tensile strain showed no out-of-plane polarization component. However, the films with a compressive strain of 0.8% present a saturation polarization of up to 55 μC·cm, more than twice as large for films grown under conditions with small strain, which is also larger than the highest values reported for bulk materials. Our results indicate the high potential for strain engineering in antiferroelectric materials, as the antipolar ground state could be retained with compressive strain. The observed enhancement of the saturation polarization by strain allows for substantial increase of energy density of the capacitors with antiferroelectric materials.

The coherent spin waves, magnons, can propagate without accompanying charge transports and Joule heat dissipation. Room-temperature and long-distance spin waves propagating within nanoscale spin channels are considered promising for integrated magnonic applications, but experimentally challenging. Here we report that long-distance propagation of chiral magnonic edge states can be achieved at room temperature in manganite thin films with long, antiferromagnetically coupled spin spirals (millimetre length) and low magnetic Gilbert damping (~3.

Radio frequency magnetron co-sputtering method employing GeTe and Sc targets was exploited for the deposition of Sc doped GeTe thin films. Different characterization techniques (scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, sheet resistance temperature-dependent measurements, variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometry, and laser ablation time-of-flight mass spectrometry) were used to evaluate the properties of as-deposited (amorphous) and annealed (crystalline) Ge-Te-Sc thin films. Prepared amorphous thin films have GeTe, GeTeSc, GeTeSc, GeTeSc and GeTeSc chemical composition.

The spin pumping effect in antiferromagnets, which ultimately converts THz waves into a spin current, is the key physical mechanism leading to an essential function which harnesses the THz technology and spintronics. Here, we report thorough experimental investigations of the spin current induced by the antiferromagnetic spin pumping effect in epitaxial α-Fe_{2}O_{3} thin films having two distinct dynamic modes and unambiguously show that both the inter- and intrasublattice spin mixing conductance are equally substantial. Our experimental insight is an important advance for understanding the physics of transduction between the spin current and the staggered magnetization dynamics at THz frequency.

The role of self-intercalation in 2D van der Waals materials is key to the understanding of many of their properties. Here we show that the magnetic ordering temperature of thin films of the 2D ferromagnet Fe_{5}GeTe_{2} is substantially increased by self-intercalated Fe that resides in the van der Waals gaps. The epitaxial films were prepared by molecular beam epitaxy and their magnetic properties explored by element-specific x-ray magnetic circular dichroism that showed ferromagnetic ordering up to 375 K.

It has been shown that depositing ketoprofen as thin films on glass substrates has a stabilizing effect on the amorphous state of ketoprofen. Polyethylene glycol ( = 6000 g/mol) was mixed with ketoprofen in a wide range of concentrations. Amorphous thin films were prepared by spin coating and subjected to storage conditions with different levels of relative humidity.
