Purpose: To investigate the presence of uridine-5'-triphosphate (UTP)-activated P2Y1-like nucleotide receptors (P2Y2R, P2Y4R, and P2Y6R) in conjunctival goblet cells (CGCs) and determine if they increase intracellular Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) and induce mucin secretion.
Methods: Adult, male rat conjunctiva was used for culture of CGCs. To investigate the expression of P2YRs, mRNA was extracted from CGCs and used for reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR) with commercially obtained primers specific to P2Y2R, P2Y4R, and P2Y6R.

Course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs) provide a variety of benefits to student learning outcomes. Here we describe an upper-level semester-long CURE that was implemented in Spring 2024 at Amherst College, a small liberal arts college, as part of the NEUR 313: Social Neuroendocrinology course. In the CURE students conducted behavioral and immunohistochemical assays in the fighting fish .

Background: Gyrodactylus von Nordmann, 1832, a genus of viviparous parasites within the family Gyrodactylidae, contains one of the largest nominal species in the world. Gyrodactylus pseudorasborae Ondračková, Seifertová & Tkachenko, 2023 widely distributed in Europe and China, although its mitochondrial genome remains unclear. This study aims to sequence the mitogenome of G.

Introduction In their routine practice, dentists frequently encounter dentinal hypersensitivity, which is caused by the pulpal nerves' increased excitability due to fluid movement in the dentinal tubules. It is treated in-office using dentin desensitizers, which reduce hypersensitivity by obstructing the open tubules or desensitizing the free nerve endings present within the tubules. However, no substance or treatment plan has ever been proven to be the gold standard for the efficient treatment of dentinal hypersensitivity.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) represents a multifaceted endocrine, reproductive, and metabolic disorder characterized by hyperandrogenism and hyperinsulinemia-induced insulin resistance (IR). Recent studies reported that the etiology of PCOS is likely correlated with genes involved in steriodogenesis, IR and glucose metabolism. Among the candidate genes in insulin signaling pathways, RAB5B, a small GTPase involved in vesicle trafficking, significantly impacts cellular pathways in ovarian follicular cells, leading to clinical and endocrine changes among women with PCOS.
