Description Pleomorphic dermal sarcoma (PDS) can clinically and histopathologically mimic atypical fibroxanthoma (AFX). However, it has a more aggressive clinical course with a higher recurrence rate and metastatic potential. This case presentation aims to report a rapidly-growing, exophytic, 4 cm tumor following a non-diagnostic shave biopsy 2 months prior and to highlight distinctive features between PDS and AFX needed to make the correct diagnosis. Like AFX, PDS occurs on the sun-damaged skin of the elderly, usually on the head and neck. Also, like AFX, PDS histopathologically consists of sheets or fascicles of epithelioid and/or spindle-shaped cells, often with multinucleation, pleomorphism, and numerous mitotic figures. Immunohistochemistry cannot distinguish PDS from AFX but is used to exclude other malignancies. PDS can be distinguished from AFX by size (PDS is usually >2.0 cm) and by the presence of more aggressive histopathologic features, such as subcutaneous involvement, perineural and/or lymphovascular invasion, and necrosis. PDS is a rare entity not well documented in the literature with confusing, misleading, and changing nomenclature. PDS is a diagnosis of exclusion made after complete excision of the tumor with the aid of histopathology and immunohistochemistry.

Objective: The impact of suture materials on surgical site infections (SSIs) has been well documented in various surgical fields; however, it has not been thoroughly examined in oral oncological surgery with free-flap reconstruction. This study aimed to evaluate the incidence of oral SSIs associated with the use of monofilament and braided sutures for flap fixation.
Methods: A retrospective chart review of patients who underwent oral oncological resection with free-flap reconstruction was conducted between May 2020 and April 2024.

Neuroimaging of the medial temporal lobe (MTL), a key site of tau pathology, shows promise as an early AD biomarker. Here, we aimed to characterise volumetric patterns of the MTL in DS across the AD clinical continuum, and define associations with AD cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers.

Background: Alzheimer´s disease (AD) is the main cause of death in adults with Down syndrome (DS). We describe the unique contributions of the Down Alzheimer Barcelona Neuroimaging Initiative (DABNI) cohort by studying longitudinal changes in plasma and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) markers.
Method: We included DABNI participants with DS that contributed at least two plasma and/or CSF samples and were asymptomatic (aDS, n=155), had prodromal AD (pDS, n=46) or had AD dementia (dDS; n=53) at baseline, together with 172 euploid cognitively normal controls (CN).
