The clinical assessment of lung involvement in patients with Still's disease, results from the multicentre international AIDA Network Still's Disease Registry.

Rheumatology (Oxford)

January 2025

Department of Medical Sciences, Surgery and Neurosciences, Research Center of Systemic Autoinflammatory Diseases and Behçet's Disease Clinic, University of Siena, Siena, Italy.

Objectives: To assess the lung involvement in patients with Still's disease, an inflammatory disease assessing both children and adults. To exploit possible associated factors for parenchymal lung involvement in these patients.

Methods: A multicentre observational study was arranged assessing consecutive patients with Still's disease characterized by the lung involvement among those included in the AIDA (AutoInflammatory Disease Alliance) Network Still's Disease Registry.

Quantifying Pulmonary Microvascular Density in Mice Across Lobules.

J Vis Exp

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Drug-Targeting and Drug Delivery System of the Education Ministry and Sichuan Province, Sichuan Engineering Laboratory for Plant-Sourced Drug and Sichuan Research Center for Drug Precision Industrial Technology, West China School of Pharmacy, Sichuan University;

The abnormal alternation of pulmonary angiogenesis is related to lung microvascular dysfunction and is deeply linked to vascular wall integrity, blood flow regulation, and gas exchange. In murine models, lung lobes exhibit significant differences in size, shape, location, and vascularization, yet existing methods lack consideration for these variations when quantifying microvascular density. This limitation hinders the comprehensive study of lung microvascular dysfunction and the potential remodeling of microvasculature circulation across different lobules.

Objective: Multi-organ failure frequently complicates sepsis, with lungs being the primary target. T helper (Th) cell activation and phenotypic imbalance among them contribute significantly to sepsis-associated lung injury. Additionally, the complement system could regulate the polarized phenotype of T lymphocytes.

Given the strong association between relative wall thickness (RWT) and cardiovascular dysfunction, this study aims to explore RWT as a novel cardiovascular indicator to predict the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) after lung cancer surgery and guide clinical interventions. This study retrospectively analyzed 170 patients who underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for lung cancer in Nanjing First Hospital, China, between January 2022 and December 2023. Patients were divided into AKI group (n = 52) and non-AKI group (n = 118) based on the occurrence of AKI.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations often lead to hospitalizations and subsequent readmissions. Steroid therapy is a common approach in managing COPD exacerbations, yet a considerable proportion of patients experience readmissions within a short timeframe, highlighting the persistent and complex nature of COPD exacerbations. The aim of this retrospective study is to investigate risk factors for all-cause hospital readmissions in COPD patients discharged on steroid tapers following exacerbations, emphasizing the need for personalized management strategies to reduce readmission rates.
