The complete hematological remission (CHR) rate, duration of remission and survival were studied in relation to age, peripheral blast cell (PBC) count, presence or absence of tumor masses, cytological type, and treatment in 650 patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Prognostic factors were considered separately and divided into prognostic classes. Age and PCB count correlated with both the rate and the duration of CHR. This correlation was still observed for more recent treatment schedules though it appears to be becoming progressively less significant. Meningeal relapses were more common in patients less than 1 year old and in those with a high PCB count. It is suggested that stratification of patients according to such factors as age, PCB count, presence or absence of tumor, and cytological type might be necessary for the design of new treatment protocols and for the evaluation of their results.

The co-occurrence of microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) is an emerging environmental concern. Wetland plants, with their unique anaerobic-aerobic environments, offer a promising approach for PCBs removal. However, the impact of MPs and NPs on PCBs dynamics in constructed wetlands is not well understood.

This work presents a facile, ultrasensitive, and selective chemiresistive biosensor assisted by an adaptive signal extraction algorithm (ASEA) for detecting vimentin, a potential biomarker for ovarian cancer detection. The low-cost device, fabricated on a PCB substrate through sacrificial copper etching, features a 3D-IDE design with interwoven comb-like structures mimicking the natural symmetry of a droplet. An unequal count of positive and negative concentric circle fingers ensures a uniform, higher electric field over the sensor's surface, as verified by COMSOL Multiphysics 3D simulation.

Epidemiological evidence regarding the associations of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) with lipid metabolism and its potential biological mechanisms remain largely unknown. We intended to explore the associations of OCPs and PCBs with dyslipidemia and blood lipid levels, and further evaluate the mediating role of total and differential white blood cell (WBC) counts. We measured the blood lipid levels, the concentration of OCPs/PCBs and WBC counts in serum among 2036 adults in Wuhan city, China.

Numerous studies have shown that microplastics can interact with other pollutants in the environment to produce synergistic effects, leading to more serious impacts. To date, there is little consensus on the combined effects of microfibers (MFs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs, Aroclor 1254), two legacy and alarming environmental pollutants. There is an urgent need to assess the impact of combined exposures on bivalve immune defences.
