Osteoarthritis (OA), the most common joint disorder worldwide, is characterized by progressive degeneration of articular and periarticular structures, leading to physical and emotional impairments that greatly affect the quality of life of patients. Unfortunately, no therapy has been able to halt the progression of the disease. Owing to the complexity of OA, most animal models are only able to mimic a specific stage or feature of the human disorder. In this work, we demonstrate the intraarticular injection of kaolin or carrageenan leads to the progressive degeneration of the rat's knee joint, accompanied by mechanical hyperalgesia and allodynia, gait impairments (reduced contact area of the affected limb), and radiological and histopathological findings concomitant with the development of human grade 4 OA. In addition, animals also display emotional impairments 4 weeks after induction, namely, anxious and depressive-like behaviour, important and common comorbidities of human OA patients. Overall, prolonging kaolin or carrageenan-induced monoarthritis mimics several important physical and psychological features of human OA in both male and female rodents and could be further applied in long-term studies of OA-associated chronic pain.

Introduction: the two most used types of prosthesis are posterior cruciate ligament preserving (CR) and posterostabilized (PS). Proponents of CR TKA cited greater stability, greater range of motion, better proprioception, and greater kickback associated with the native posterior cruciate ligament.
Objective: to assess the degree of pain, return of mobility and functionality of the joint of patients who had TKA, between the years January 2018 and December 2022 at the Juárez Centro Medical Surgical Unit, using their records as a study unit.

Background: Preoperative malnutrition is a known risk factor for postoperative complications following total joint arthroplasty (TJA), however, there is scant literature comparing which nutritional index is best at predicting these outcomes. The purpose of this study was to investigate the utility of the Maastricht Index (MI), Onodera's Prognostic Index (OPNI), the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI), and a novel, modified Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (mGNRI) in predicting periprosthetic joint infection (PJI), wound complications (WC), readmission, and reoperation rates after TJA.
Methods: A single-center, retrospective cohort study was performed of patients who underwent primary TJA from January 2016 to December 2021.

The synovium is a loose connective tissue that separates the intra-articular (IA) joint compartments of all diarthrodial joints from the systemic circulation. It can be divided into two layers: the intima, a thin and cell-dense layer atop a more heterogeneous subintima, composed of collagen and various cell types. The subintima contains penetrating capillaries and lymphatic vessels that rapidly clear injected drugs from the joint space which may vary not only with drug size and charge but also with the microstructure and composition of the intima and subintima of the synovium.
