Dysfunction or failure of the endothelial organ is a heterogenous and often ill-described feature of both cardiovascular and noncardiovascular disorders. Although seldom recognized as a separate clinical condition, endothelial cell dysfunction (ECD) is an established catalyst of disease. However, even in recent pathophysiological studies, ECD is frequently oversimplified as a binary state without gradation, based on the assessment of a single function (e.g., synthesis or activity of nitric oxide) and without considering spatiotemporal dimensions (local vs. generalized, acute vs. chronic). In this article, we suggest a simple scale to grade the severity of ECD and a definition of ECD in three dimensions: space, time, and severity. We also adopt a broader perspective on ECD by integrating and comparing gene expression data of endothelial cells from different organs and diseases and propose a concept that links common pathophysiological mechanisms. We hope that this will enhance the understanding of the pathophysiology of ECD and stimulate discussion in this field.

Background: The number of people living with congenital heart disease (CHD) in 2017 was estimated to be 12 million, which was 19% higher than that in 1990. However, their death rate declined by 35%, emphasizing the importance of monitoring their quality of life due to its impact on several patient outcomes. The main objective of this study is to analyze how parents' psychosocial factors contribute to children's and adolescents' perceptions of their QoL, focusing on their medical condition.

Background: Human placental hydrolysate (hPH) contains anti-inflammatory substances. This study aimed to analyze whether injecting hPH into the subacromial space could reduce pain in patients with shoulder impingement syndrome.
Methods: This single-blind, randomized controlled study enrolled 50 patients with shoulder impingement syndrome who were randomly assigned to either the hPH or placebo groups.

Plant diversity is fundamental to maintaining grassland ecosystem function. Rangeland managers use fencing as a strategy to enhance plant diversity in degraded grasslands. However, the effects of this natural management approach on grasslands across a wide range of environmental gradients and its spatial pattern remain unclear.

Goal-directed behaviour requires humans to constantly manage and switch between multiple, independent and conflicting sources of information. Conventional cognitive control tasks, however, only feature one task and one source of distraction. Therefore, it is unclear how control is allocated in multidimensional environments.

The hominin mandible SK 15 was discovered in April 1949 in Swartkrans Member 2, dated to ∼1.4 Ma. Albeit distorted on the right side, the left and right corpus of SK 15 are relatively low and thick, even compared to most Early to Middle Pleistocene Homo specimens.
