Comparative Poisson trials of an experimental treatment versus a control typically condition on the total number of events that occur across both arms (Design A). Inference is based on the binomial distribution. Recently, an approach termed Design C to compare experimental treatments to the same control was introduced. Under Design C without curtailment, the trial continues until a prespecified number of events occur in the control arm, leading to inference based on the negative multinomial distribution. The question remains of how advantageous it is to conduct one Design C trial comparing experimental treatment arms to the same control arm as opposed to conducting separate Design A trials each comparing one experimental treatment arm to a different control arm. This paper, therefore, compares the expected number of subjects to enroll for the two designs under uncurtailed and curtailed settings. The designs are evaluated when the null hypothesis and various assumptions for the alternative hypothesis hold. We simulate a variety of combinations for the Type 1 error, power, and ratio of the incidence rate of events in the experimental treatment to control arms. Design C frequently offers significant savings in terms of sample size relative to Design A.

Hemodialysis is a crucial procedure for removing toxins and waste from the body when kidneys fail to perform this function effectively. This study addresses the need to improve the efficiency and biocompatibility of membranes used in dialyzers. We simulate fluid flow through two types of membranes, Cuprophan (cellulosic) and AN69ST (synthetic), to understand the complex mechanisms involved and quantify key variables such as pressure, concentration, and flow.

In the medical field, endoscopic video analysis is crucial for disease diagnosis and minimally invasive surgery. The Endoscopic Foundation Models (Endo- FM) utilize large-scale self-supervised pre-training on endoscopic video data and leverage video transformer models to capture long-range spatiotemporal dependencies. However, detecting complex lesions such as gastrointestinal metaplasia (GIM) in endoscopic videos remains challenging due to unclear boundaries and indistinct features, and Endo-FM has not demonstrated good performance.

Purpose: MAP2K1/MEK1 mutations are potentially actionable drivers in cancer. MAP2K1 mutations have been functionally classified into three groups according to their dependency on upstream RAS/RAF signaling. However, the clinical efficacy of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway inhibitors (MAPKi) for MAP2K1-mutant tumors is not well defined.

Bone damages in laying hens are of great concern in poultry farming. Besides various risk factors like housing systems or nutrient supply during egg production, it has often been hypothesized that genetically high-performing laying hens may be more prone to bone damages. The relevance of dietary support during the rearing period of pullets for optimal bone development has been little addressed so far.
