How to not induce SNAs: The insufficiency of directional force.

People respond faster to smaller numbers in their left space and to larger numbers in their right space. Here we argue that movements in space contribute to the formation of spatial-numerical associations (SNAs). We studied the impact of continuous isometric forces along the horizontal or vertical cardinal axes on SNAs while participants performed random number production and arithmetic verification tasks. Our results suggest that such isometric directional force do not suffice to induce SNAs.

Spherical nucleic acids (SNAs) with functional peptide cores are an emerging nanoplatform for synergistic cancer therapy but have been rarely reported. We construct herein the first SNA nanoplatform based on a biodegradable binary peptide backbone of methionine (Met) and cysteine (Cys) for codelivery of a photosensitizer, Chlorin e6 (Ce6) and human liver-specific miR122 for synergistic photodynamic-gene therapy of hepatic cell carcinoma (HCC). Met supplementation by the peptide core improves the infiltration of T cells and enhances the effector function of T cells for turning a "cold" tumor into a "hot" one.

We discover strange nonchaotic attractor (SNA) through experiments in an unforced system comprising turbulent reactive flow. While models suggest SNAs are common in dynamical systems, experimental observations are primarily limited to systems with external forcing. We observe SNA prior to the emergence of periodic oscillations from chaotic fluctuations.

Metal Ion-Condensed DNA Nanoparticle Library: Phase Separation and Transition and Antisense Therapy Applications.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

October 2024

Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Korea University, 145 Anam-ro, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul 02841, Republic of Korea.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study created a library of M-condensed DNA nanoparticles and explored their phase behaviors, revealing that metal ions drive DNA to either grow into individual particles or break apart from large aggregates.
  • * The findings suggest that the nature of the metal ions significantly affects these phase transitions and highlight the potential of these nanoparticles in anticancer therapies while considering the toxicity of released metal ions.

Spherical nucleic acids (SNAs) are nanostructures with the DNA arranged radially on the surface, thus allowing specific binding with cancer cells expressing high levels of scavenger receptor-A to enhance cellular uptake. However, conventional carriers for SNAs are cytotoxic, not degradable and difficult to deliver multiple payloads. In this study, we developed charge-reversible coordination-crosslinked SNAs to deliver dual anti-cancer genes and ferroptosis payload for anti-cancer purposes.

Department of Chemistry and International Institute for Nanotechnology, Northwestern University, 2145 Sheridan Road, Evanston, Illinois 60208, United States.

Article Synopsis
  • HPV vaccines show promise in fighting HPV-related cancers, but clinical success has been challenging.
  • Recent studies using spherical nucleic acids (SNAs) with a specific peptide (E7) and a CpG adjuvant demonstrated superior immune responses in humanized mice, particularly with distinctive oligonucleotide anchors.
  • Stronger anchors improved T-cell responses and dendritic cell activation, emphasizing the importance of structural design for effective therapeutic vaccines.
