The real-space pseudopotential approach is a well-known method for large-scale density functional theory (DFT) calculations. One of its main limitations, however, is the introduction of errors associated with the positioning of the underlying real-space grid, a phenomenon usually known as the "egg-box" effect. The effect can be controlled by using a finer grid, but this raises the cost of the calculations or even undermines their feasibility altogether. Therefore, there is ongoing interest in the reduction of the effect per a given real-space grid. Here, we present a finite difference interpolation of electron orbitals as a means of exploiting the high resolution of the pseudopotential to reduce egg-box effects systematically. We implement the method in PARSEC, a finite difference real-space pseudopotential DFT code, and demonstrate error mitigation and improved convergence at a low additional computational cost.

Background: The location and size of necrotic lesions are important factors for collapse, The preserved angles (PAs) are divided into anterior preserved angle (APA) and lateral preserved angle (LPA), which could accurately measure the location of necrosis lesion. We used them to evaluate the effect of the location and size of necrotic lesions on collapse by finite element analysis, to offer a framework for evaluating the prognosis of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) in clinical settings.
Methods: 3 left hip models were constructed based on CT data.

The majority of industries throughout the world rely largely on fossil fuels as their primary energy source. However, these resources are finite and become scarcer by the day. Therefore, exploring alternative fuels and additives for diesel fuel is imperative to mitigate fuel consumption.

Lower limb biomechanics of chronic ankle instability (CAI) individuals has been widely investigated, but few have evaluated the internal foot mechanics in CAI. This study evaluated bone and soft tissue stress in CAI contrasted with copers and non-injured participants during a cutting task. Integrating scanned 3D foot shapes and free-form deformation, sixty-six personalized finite element foot models were developed.

To suppress the significant vibration line spectra of piping systems under multi-frequency harmonic excitations, a novel dynamic vibration absorber (NDVA) is designed. The NDVA integrates numerous independent resonant units within a finite space through an ingenious structural design and possesses rich frequency regulation characteristics. A vibration model of the piping system equipped with the NDVA is established, and the approximate equivalent parameters of both the piping and the resonant units are inverted based on the frequency response function (FRF) test results.

Pneumatic impactor is widely used in the drilling process of various medium and high hard rocks with poor drill ability. Currently, there is relatively little analysis on the impact of the inclination of the rock surface during the drilling process on the drilling efficiency and excavation capability of pneumatic impactors. Based on the dynamic theory of impact drilling and finite element method (FEM), the constitutive model of HJC criterion and INVENTOR 3D mechanical structure design software, a 3D numerical analysis system of piston-bit head-rock during pneumatic impactor drilling is established by ANSYS LS-DYNA, a nonlinear dynamic analysis software.
