Background: Maxillary sinuses may present a wide spectrum of anatomical variations and pathological lesions whose recognition is mandatory for the clinician, especially prior to any surgical intervention in the area, such as in cases of sinus floor elevation. The goal of this study was the evaluation, mapping and prevalence of sinus anatomical variants and pathoses in Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) scans of dental patients.

Material And Methods: 660 CBCT examinations of adult patients involving both sinuses were obtained (between 2017 and 2023) and analyzed.

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dental Research Institute, School of Dentistry, Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to perform a comparative analysis of the ultrastructural and chemical composition of sialoliths, tonsilloliths, and antroliths and to describe their growth pattern.

Materials And Methods: We obtained 19 specimens from 18 patients and classified the specimens into three groups: sialolith (A), tonsillolith (B), and antrolith (C). The peripheral, middle, and core regions of the specimens were examined in detail by histology, micro-computed tomography (micro- CT), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

Reports of implant fixtures dislocating into the maxillary sinus during sinus graft procedures are well-documented. Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the prevalence and characteristics of incidental soft tissue calcifications (STCs) in head and neck regions using panoramic radiographs from over 9,500 patients.
  • Findings reveal that 35.8% of the examined radiographs showed STCs, with common types including ossified stylohyoid complex, thyroid cartilage, and tonsilloliths, and their occurrence was more frequent in middle-aged females.
  • The research highlights that certain calcifications are linked with other conditions, indicating that recognizing STCs can aid in diagnosing potential health issues.
