Two-dimensional (2D) siloxene is attracting considerable research interest recently principally owing to its inherent compatibility with silicon-based semiconductor technology. -The synthesis of siloxene has been mostly limited to multilayered structures using traditional topochemical reaction procedures. Herein, we report high-yield synthesis of single to few-layer siloxene nanosheets by developing a two-step interlayer expansion and subsequent liquid phase exfoliation procedure. Our protocol enables high-yield production of few-layer siloxene nanosheets with a lateral dimension of up to 4 μm and thickness ranging from 0.8 to 4.8 nm, corresponding to single to a few layers, well stabilized in water. The atomically flat nature of exfoliated siloxene can be exploited for the construction of 2D/2D heterostructure membranes typical solution processing. We demonstrate highly ordered graphene/siloxene heterostructure films with synergistic mechanical and electrical properties, which deliver noticeably high device capacitance when assembled into a coin cell symmetric supercapacitor device structures. Additionally, we demonstrate that the mechanically flexible exfoliated siloxene-graphene heterostructure enables its direct use in flexible and wearable supercapacitor applications.

Functional silanes are multifaceted cross-linkers, compatibilizers, coupling agents, and surface modifiers. Herein, we present organofunctional polysiloxane building blocks that offer great versatility in terms of molecular weight, degree of condensation, and the choice and loading of organic substituent groups. The organofunctional polyethoxysilanes (funPEOS) are prepared in a one-pot, two-step process: synthesis of the PEOS carrier/substrate, followed by grafting a functional silane "shell", both based on condensation with acetic anhydride.

The integration of metal oxides onto two-dimensional layered siloxene has proven to be an effective strategy for expanding potential applications across diverse fields. Herein, we present the synthesis and detailed characterization of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods deposited on siloxene nanosheets using the wet chemical precipitation method without the need of alkali. The presence of ZnO nanorods was confirmed through electron microscopy analyses.

Article Synopsis
  • Hydrogen peroxide (HO) can be produced more sustainably through a two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (2e ORR) instead of the traditional energy-heavy anthraquinone process.
  • The research introduces a hybrid catalyst made of nickel (Ni) clusters on siloxene nanosheets (Ni/siloxene), which shows over 95% selectivity for HO in alkaline conditions, making it an efficient alternative.
  • The high performance of this catalyst is due to the unique interaction between the Ni clusters and the oxygen-rich surface of siloxene, confirmed by density functional theory (DFT) calculations that highlight its reduced energy barriers for producing HO.

Catalysis based on two-dimensional silicon has been under intense investigation recently. However, its substandard catalytic activity is far from industrialization. In this work, we demonstrate a new solution to this problem formulated on the batch synthesis of siloxene with an enhanced specific surface area (217.
