Tuberculosis (TB) is a multisystemic contagious disease produced by complex bacteria (MTBC), with a prevalence of 65:100,000 inhabitants in Romania (six times higher than the European average). The diagnosis usually relies on the detection of MTBC in culture. Although this is a sensitive method of detection and remains the "gold standard", the results are obtained after several weeks. Nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs), being a quick and sensitive method, represent progress in the diagnosis of TB. The aim of this study is to assess the assumption that NAAT using Xpert MTB/RIF is an efficient method of TB diagnosis and has the capacity to reduce false-positive results. Pathological samples from 862 patients with TB suspicion were tested using microscopic examination, molecular testing and bacterial culture. The results show that the Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra test has a sensitivity of 95% and a specificity of 96.4% compared with 54.8% sensitivity and 99.5% specificity for Ziehl-Neelsen stain microscopy, and an average of 30 days gained in the diagnosis of TB compared with bacterial culture. The implementation of molecular testing in TB laboratories leads to an important increase in early diagnostics of the disease and the prompter isolation and treatment of infected patients.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is a global problem that seriously jeopardizes human health. Among them, the diagnosis and treatment of smear- or culture-negative TB patients is a challenge. The Xpert MTB/RIF (Xpert) assay has been reported to be a novel molecular diagnostic tool for rapidly detecting TB.

Background: Public health issues related to tuberculosis still exist. Because Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra is more effective than conventional TB diagnostic techniques are, it is now regarded as an emerging technology. The diagnostic accuracy of Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra for tuberculosis was assessed in this systematic study.

BACKGROUNDExisting TB diagnostic tests rely on sputum samples, which can be difficult to collect from all patients. This study examines plasma cell-free DNA (Mtb cfDNA) based quantitative PCR (qPCR) assay for the diagnosis of pulmonary TB (PTB).METHODSThe qPCR assay targeted insertion sequence (IS), and R genes on plasma samples from 106 PTB patients and 60 controls.

Background: TB is a leading infectious disease globally, with war and displacement significantly increasing its burden. In Ethiopia, ongoing conflict and displacement have worsened health conditions, yet data on TB prevalence and resistance remain scarce. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of TB, rifampicin-resistant TB (RR-TB), and associated factors among presumptive TB patients in hospitals during the ongoing crisis.
