Electrocardiographic predictors of response to sacubitril/valsartan therapy in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.

J Electrocardiol

June 2024

School of Medicine, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin, Ireland; Department of Cardiology, Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown, Dublin, Ireland. Electronic address:

Background: Sacubitril/valsartan (SV) is currently recommended as a first-line therapy in patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) due to its significant clinical and prognostic benefit; however, not all patients respond to therapy and predictors of clinical response to SV remain under-studied.

Aims: To identify electrocardiographic (ECG) predictors of response to SV therapy in HFrEF patients.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of a hospital heart failure registry was undertaken.

Lung Ultrasonography for Pneumothorax in Dogs and Cats.

Vet Clin North Am Small Anim Pract

November 2021

Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, Department of Veterinary Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences, University of Calgary, 11877 85 Street NW, Calgary, AB T3R 1J3, USA. Electronic address:

A sonographic diagnosis of pneumothorax (PTX) traditionally relies on excluding the presence of lung sliding, lung pulse, and/or B lines/lung consolidations, and identifying the lung point. However, these criteria can be difficult to identify, particularly in critically ill patients with respiratory disorders, and the lung point is infrequently used. Newer sonographic findings, such as mirrored ribs, reverse lung sliding, and abnormal curtain signs, have been identified to try to increase the accuracy of diagnosing PTX.

Modified RNA-seq method for microbial community and diversity analysis using rRNA in different types of environmental samples.

PLoS One

October 2017

Ministry of Education Key Laboratory for Biodiversity Science and Ecological Engineering, School of Life Sciences, Fudan University, Shanghai, People's Republic of China.

RNA-seq-based SSU (small subunit) rRNA (ribosomal RNA) analysis has provided a better understanding of potentially active microbial community within environments. However, for RNA-seq library construction, high quantities of purified RNA are typically required. We propose a modified RNA-seq method for SSU rRNA-based microbial community analysis that depends on the direct ligation of a 5' adaptor to RNA before reverse-transcription.

To increase containment efficiency and reduce energy consumption, a sash-less, variable-height inclined air-curtain fume hood (sIAC hood) was developed and tested by a laser-assisted flow visualization technique and tracer-gas detection method. This novel design requires neither sash nor baffle. The sIAC hood employed the inclined push-pull air-curtain technique and two deflection plates installed on the side walls of the hood to induce a tetra-vortex flow structure.
