Objective: An optimized quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe (QuEChERS) technique was investigated and compared with the conventional QuEChERS technique for the simultaneous analysis of fifty-three pesticide residues in safflower using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS).

Method: Graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) consisting of a major amount of carbon and nitrogen with a large surface area was used as a QuEChERS adsorbent instead of graphitized carbon black (GCB) for safflower extraction purification. Validation experiments were performed using spiked pesticide samples, and real samples were analyzed.

Results: The linearity of the modified QuEChERS technique was evaluated with high coefficients of determination (R-2) being higher than 0.99. The limits of detection were <10 μg/kg. The spiked recoveries ranged from 70.4% to 97.6% with a relative standard deviation of less than 10.0%. The fifty-three pesticides exhibited negligible matrix effects (<20%). Thiamethoxam, acetamiprid, metolachlor, and difenoconazole were detected in real samples using an established method.

Conclusion: This work provides a new g-CN-based modified QuEChERS technique for multi-pesticide residue analysis in complex food matrices.

A method involving gas chromatography coupled with quadrupole/orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (GC-Q/Orbitrap HRMS) with the QuEChERS method was developed to analyze 36 non-phthalate plasticizers in milk powder products. The samples were dissolved in 20% NaCl, extracted with acetonitrile, and purified using silica, PSA, and C. The results showed the excellent linear relationship of the calibration curves of 36 non-phthalate plasticizers in the range of 10-1000 ng mL, with correlation coefficients () not less than 0.

The influence of additives and modifiers on the chiral HPLC separation of the nicotine enantiomers using UV/Vis detection is discussed. Selected alcohols as modifiers and selected amines as additives were found to have a significant effect on the resolution and retention times of nicotine enantiomers even to the point of eliminating component elution. Systematic variations in the concentration of ethanol, methanol, and isopropanol, as modifiers, along with variations in the concentration of diethylamine, triethylamine, tributylamine, ethylenediamine, isopropylamine, as additives, revealed that the average resolution (R) of the nicotine enantiomers ranged from 2.

Centro de Investigación y Asistencia en Tecnología y Diseño del Estado de Jalisco, A.C., Mexico.

Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHPs) have been identified as substances with severe adverse effects, including carcinogenicity, endocrine disruption, and reproductive toxicity. The aim of this study was to evaluate pesticide residues in fruits and vegetables from Hopelchén to provide evidence for policy recommendations on pesticide regulation. A total of 25 samples were collected and analyzed using the QuEChERS method with GC-MS/MS and LC-MS techniques.

Background: Furfurals, key derivatives of Maillard reactions commonly found in everyday foods, have been identified as having significant toxic effects on human health. Excessive intake of furfurals can lead symptoms such as weight loss, poor nutrient metabolism which followed by disease occurrence. The severe carcinogenicity, mutagenicity and genotoxicity of furfurals were well recognized recently.

The continuous development and application of pesticides in agriculture require robust multiresidue detection methods to guarantee food safety. This study introduces a novel method for multiresidue determination of pesticides in eggplants using the QuEChERS procedure, incorporating a clean-up step using carbon nanotubes stabilized in chitosan sponge (CNT-CS) and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) for analysis. Upon identifying the optimal extraction conditions, various sorbents were assessed for their efficacy in the dispersive solid-phase extraction (d-SPE).
