Point-of-care testing (POCT), also known as on-site or near-patient testing, has been exploding in the last 20 years. A favorable POCT device requires minimal sample handling (e.g., finger-prick samples, but plasma for analysis), minimal sample volume (e.g., one drop of blood), and very fast results. Shear horizontal surface acoustic wave (SH-SAW) biosensors have attracted a lot of attention as one of the effective solutions to complete whole blood measurements in less than 3 min, while providing a low-cost and small-sized device. This review provides an overview of the SH-SAW biosensor system that has been successfully commercialized for medical use. Three unique features of the system are a disposable test cartridge with an SH-SAW sensor chip, a mass-produced bio-coating, and a palm-sized reader. This paper first discusses the characteristics and performance of the SH-SAW sensor system. Subsequently, the method of cross-linking biomaterials and the analysis of SH-SAW real-time signals are investigated, and the detection range and detection limit are presented.

Masonry is a construction material composed of units (blocks or bricks) joined with mortar. It is one of the most widely used materials in construction resisting both vertical and horizontal forces in single and multi-family housing buildings. A correct union between the units and the mortar (interface) is essential, as is determining the resistance from the applied loads.

However, the exploitation of shale gas is faced with complex geological conditions and technical challenges, one of the main challenges is that it is difficult to form discrete complex crack networks in shale, which greatly reduces the recovery rate. For different geological conditions and engineering needs, the criteria for evaluating the effect of reservoir reconstruction will be different.

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the distribution of plantar pressure and anterior-posterior (AP) or medial-lateral (ML) shear forces in healthy younger (HY) people, healthy older (HO) people, and diabetic patients, both in static standing and during gait.
Materials And Methods: A total of 20 HY adults, 16 HO adults and 15 diabetic patients were included. The static mechanical distribution measurements included: static horizontal, AP slope plane, and left/right slope standing.
Seismic imaging is one of the most powerful tools available for constraining the internal structure and composition of planetary bodies as well as enabling our understanding planetary evolution, geology, and distribution of natural resources. However, traditional seismic instrumentation can be heavy and voluminous, expensive, and/or difficult to rapidly deploy in large numbers. Distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) provides a promising new alternative given the ease of deployment, light weight and simplicity of fiber optic cables.

Wind over the ocean generates near-inertial velocities. In the open ocean, horizontal variability in the inertial frequency and mesoscale vorticity generate internal waves that transport energy laterally and drive diapcynal mixing in remote locations. In the coastal ocean, horizontal variability is produced by the coastline.
