When we decide to conduct a study, one of the first questions that arises is what number of individuals should be included in the sample for it to be 'representative' and for the study to be 'valid'? As in other areas of life, there are many matters for which there is no 'right' amount and different quantities are valid. The same applies here. When asked the question 'How many euros did this bicycle cost?', the answer is a definite number. But the question 'How many euros do I need to buy a bicycle?' can be answered in many different ways, depending on the size and other characteristics of the bicycle. Statistics textbooks contain formulas relating sample size to certain parameters and most doctors believe that one of these will give them the 'right' size for their research, and that by using them their choice of sample size will be justified in the eyes of potential reviewers. This document reflects on the true value of these formulas and how researchers should make proper use of them. It is necessary to show errors and simulations that benefit no one and hinder many by taking up large amounts of time and energy.

The recognition of conspecifics, animals of the same species, and keeping track of changes in the social environment is essential to all animals. While molecules, circuits, and brain regions that control social behaviors across species are studied in-depth, the neural mechanisms that enable the recognition of social cues are largely obscure. Recent evidence suggests that social cues across sensory modalities converge in a thalamic area conserved across vertebrates.

This study investigates the role of teacher mediation in facilitating children's communication during problem-solving, play-based coding activities with Kubo, a screen-free coding toy, in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) settings. Following an initial observation involving nine kindergarten teachers and 36 children, a workshop was held to identify elements that teachers considered relevant for facilitating children's use of verbal and non-verbal communication. Key mediation elements, such as multimodal communication, planning, time, humor, and reflective questioning, were identified during the workshop and applied in a subsequent observation with the same participants.

Unlabelled: Artificial intelligence (AI) is constantly improving the quality of medical procedures. Despite the application of AI in the healthcare industry, there are conflicting opinions among professionals, and limited research on its practical application in Saudi Arabia was conducted.
Aim: To assess the nurses' knowledge regarding the application of AI in practice at one of the Ministry of Health hospitals in Saudi Arabia.

Background: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects about 13% of adolescents and is associated with substance use-related morbidity and mortality. While evidence on effective interventions to reduce alcohol use among adolescents with ADHD is limited, parent-teen communication about alcohol use has been found to be protective. Other approaches, such as educational interventions, hold promise to reduce alcohol-related harms in adolescents with ADHD.

Within green plants, the derived condition of heterosporous reproduction has emerged from the ancestral condition of homospory in disparate locations on the phylogenetic tree at least 11 times, of which three lineages are extant. In all green plant lineages where heterospory has emerged, there has been a significant downsizing in chromosome numbers.
