The gastrointestinal tract is a unique ecological niche with a high abundance of various Enterobacterales in close proximity. This allows the exchange of mobile genetic elements that carry resistance determinants. In the hospital setting, resistant organisms are prevalent and selective antibiotic pressure is high, providing a supportive platform for interspecies dissemination of resistance.

While many bacteria also have linear chromosomes and plasmids, no transposons were known to target bacterial telomeres. Here we show several families of independently evolved telomeric transposons in cyanobacteria and .

Dynamically unstable polymers capture and move cellular cargos in bacteria and eukaryotes, but regulation of their assembly remains poorly understood. Here we describe polymerization of Alp7A, a bacterial actin-like protein (ALP) that distributes copies of plasmid pLS20 among daughter cells in . Purified ATP-Alp7A forms dynamically unstable polymers with a high critical concentration for net assembly (cc = 10.

Plasmid-mediated DNA transformation is a foundational molecular technique and the basis for most CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing systems. While plasmid transformations are well established for many agricultural Phytophthora pathogens, development of this technique in forest Phytophthoras is lacking. Given our long-term research objective to develop CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing in a forest pathogenic Phytophthora species, we sought to establish the functionality of polyethylene glycol (PEG)-mediated plasmid transformation in five species: P.

Background: Glioblastoma (GBM) is a highly aggressive, invasive, and growth factor-independent grade IV glioma. Survival following the diagnosis is generally poor, with a median survival of approximately 15 months, and it is considered the most aggressive and lethal central nervous system tumor. Conventional treatments based on surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy only delay progression, and death is inevitable.
