The purpose of this study is to explore attributes that influence the quality of smart classrooms from the perspective of higher education teachers. Relying on a purposive sample of 31 academicians from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, the study identifies themes related to quality attributes of technology platforms and social interactions. These attributes are user security, educational intelligence, technology accessibility, system diversity, system interconnectivity, system simplicity, system sensitivity, system adaptability and platform affordability. The study identifies management procedures, educational policies, and administrative practices that enact, engineer, enable, and enhance these attributes in smart classrooms. The findings also highlight strategy-oriented planning and cause-driven transformation as the main smart classroom contexts influencing the quality of education among interviewees. With insights from the interviews, this article discusses some theoretical and practical implications of the study, research limitations, and potential future research directions.

Acknowledging the detrimental effects of prolonged sitting, this study examined the effects of an acute exercise break during prolonged sitting on executive function, cortical hemodynamics, and microvascular status. In this randomized crossover study, 71 college students completed three conditions: (i) uninterrupted sitting (SIT); (ii) SIT with a 15 min moderate-intensity cycling break (MIC); and (iii) SIT with a 15 min vigorous-intensity cycling break (VIC). Behavioral outcomes, retinal vessel diameters (central retinal artery equivalents [CRAE], retinal vein equivalents [CRVE], arteriovenous ratio [AVR]), cortical activation, and effective connectivity were evaluated.

In smart classroom environments, accurately recognizing students' facial expressions is crucial for teachers to efficiently assess students' learning states, timely adjust teaching strategies, and enhance teaching quality and effectiveness. In this paper, we propose a student facial expression recognition model based on multi-scale and deep fine-grained feature attention enhancement (SFER-MDFAE) to address the issues of inaccurate facial feature extraction and poor robustness of facial expression recognition in smart classroom scenarios. Firstly, we construct a novel multi-scale dual-pooling feature aggregation module to capture and fuse facial information at different scales, thereby obtaining a comprehensive representation of key facial features; secondly, we design a key region-oriented attention mechanism to focus more on the nuances of facial expressions, further enhancing the representation of multi-scale deep fine-grained feature; finally, the fusion of multi-scale and deep fine-grained attention-enhanced features is used to obtain richer and more accurate facial key information and realize accurate facial expression recognition.

Mastering the correct use of laboratory equipment is a fundamental skill for undergraduate science students involved in laboratory-based training. However, hands-on laboratory time is often limited, and remote students may struggle as their absence from the physical lab limits their skill development. An air-displacement micropipette was selected for our initial investigation, as accuracy and correct technique are essential in generating reliable assay data.

Background: Medical students receive relatively little exposure to intensive care medicine throughout their undergraduate training. The COVID-19 pandemic further hindered students' exposure with the entrance to intensive care units (ICU) limited. To address the problem, this study explored the use of assisted reality technology to create a smart classroom in intensive care.
