The appealing success of non-van der Waals (non-VdW) two-dimensional (2D) bismuth oxyselenide (BiOSe) crystals in optoelectronics provides an exciting avenue to investigate their fundamental physical properties. To date, the majority of efforts have focused on understanding the properties of 2D BiOSe, usually grown on a mica substrate. However, a gap exists in realizing the origin of photoluminescence (PL) of new age non-VdW BiOSe at visible and near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths and the effect of growth substrates on the structure and optical properties. Herein, we report that the formation of multiple excitons in momentum valleys is responsible for broadband absorption and visible PL from a few layer thick 2D BiOSe. The effect of growth substrates on the structure and optical properties is investigated in detail. Our studies unfold that the growth substrates (mica, sapphire, quartz, SiO, glass) introduce strain/doping in chemical vapor deposition (CVD)-grown BiOSe crystals, and consequently, the morphology, lattice constant, absorption coefficient, optical bandgap, refractive index, and PL properties are modulated. In addition, the possible direct/indirect multiple exciton formation at the valence band to the conduction band at different symmetry points of BiOSe is analyzed from experimental data on different growth substrates and corroborated with the density functional theory (DFT) calculation of the electronic band structure. Furthermore, temperature-dependent photo-carrier dynamics discloses an A/Γ-exciton activation energy of 209.6 meV in BiOSe. These findings are significant for the futuristic optoelectronic applications of BiOSe and the choice of growth substrates on directly fabricated nanodevices.

We synthesized rigid, macromolecular brushes with well-defined and quantized brush lengths on a gold nanoparticle substrate by using a macromolecular "grafting from" approach. The macromonomers used in these brushes were thiol- and maleimide-functionalized peptide coiled coil "bundlemers" that fold into discrete 4 nm × 2 nm (length × diameter) cylindrical nanoparticles. With each added peptide macromonomer layer, brush thickness increased by approximately the length of a single bundlemer nanoparticle.

SN2-Reaction-Driven Bonding-Heterointerface Strengthens Buried Adhesion and Orientation for Advanced Perovskite Solar Cells.

Traditionally weak buried interaction without customized chemical bonding always goes against the formation of high-quality perovskite film that highly determines the efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells. To address this issue, herein, we propose a bimolecular nucleophilic substitution reaction (SN2) driving strategy to idealize the robust buried interface by simultaneously decorating underlying substrate and functionalizing [PbX6]4- octahedral framework with iodoacetamide and thiol molecules, respectively. Theoretical and experimental results demonstrate that a strong SN2 reaction between exposed halogen and thiol group in two molecules occurs, which not only benefits the reinforcement of buried adhesion, but also triggers target-point-oriented crystallization, synergistically upgrading the upper perovskite film quality and accelerating interfacial charge extraction-transfer behavior.

Ecological ditches serve as one of the important measures for the concentrated infiltration of stormwater in the construction process of sponge cities. Prolonged concentrated infiltration of stormwater can lead to the accumulation of pollutants and pollution risks in the substrate of ecological ditches. In this study, two different substrate ecological ditches were constructed, namely, a combined substrate ecological ditch with zeolite + ceramsite (EA), and a biological substrate ecological ditch (EB).

Platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB), an important protein biomarker, is closely associated with tumorigenesis. Therefore, it is important to develop a simple and sensitive method to detect PDGF-BB. Herein, we developed a dual recycling signal amplification strategy for colorimetric and sensitive detection of PDGF-BB using a PDGF-BB specific aptamer.
