Attention-based scale sequence network for small object detection.

Heliyon

June 2024

Division of Artificial Intelligence Engineering, Sookmyung Women's University, Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent advancements in deep learning have significantly impacted object recognition in computer vision, yet recognizing small objects remains a challenge, crucial for applications like aerial searches for missing persons.
  • The study introduces an Attention-Based Scale Sequence Network (ASSN), which enhances the performance of the feature pyramid network (FPN) for small object detection, improving average precision compared to YOLOv7 and YOLOv8.
  • ASSN is lightweight, versatile, and optimized for FPN-based detectors, achieving better performance while reducing computational complexity, and is available as open-source on GitHub.

Identification of mine water source based on TPE-LightGBM.

Sci Rep

May 2024

China Pingmei Shenma Holding Group Co., LTD, Pingdingshan, 467000, Henan, China.

Article Synopsis
  • - Mine water inrush poses significant safety risks in mining operations, making it crucial to swiftly identify water sources to mitigate potential damage.
  • - This study employs water chemistry data from various aquifers in the Pingdingshan coalfield and develops an intelligent model using LightGBM, improved by the TPE algorithm, which enhances model accuracy by 13.9%.
  • - The performance of this TPE-LightGBM model outperforms other methods with an accuracy of 0.931, highlighting the importance of calcium concentration in identifying water sources effectively.

Solid-state single-photon sources are central building blocks in quantum information processing. Atomically thin crystals have emerged as sources of nonclassical light; however, they perform below the state-of-the-art devices based on volume crystals. Here, we implement a bright single-photon source based on an atomically thin sheet of WSe coupled to a tunable optical cavity in a liquid-helium-free cryostat without the further need for active stabilization.

Telemedicine as a technology can support processes in the field of emergency medicine (EM) including therapies and diagnostics, but technically is often based on hardware solutions for local EM structures, especially when involving the field of pre-hospital EM. By developing an open-source, data protection compliant solution (EU GDPR and HIPAA) as well as using standardized web and open-source based technology the Emergency Talk Application (ETA) can be used as a technology that can connect emergency medical providers and include already available regional structures. By actively involving patients and connecting these with emergency or urgent care physicians ETA can be used not only as a teleconsultation system for paramedics and physicians, but in a wider network.
