Pyridine and its reduced form (piperidine) are the most common nitrogen heterocycles in FDA-approved drugs. Additionally, their presence in alkaloids, ligands for transition metals, catalysts, and organic materials with various properties makes them among the most important structural cores. Despite its importance, direct and selective functionalization of pyridine remains scarce due to its electron-poor nature and nitrogen coordination power. Instead, functionalized pyridine rings were primarily constructed from suitably substituted acyclic precursors. The focus on sustainable chemistry with minimum waste generation encourages chemists to develop direct C-H functionalization. This review summarizes different approaches to tackle the reactivity and regio- and stereoselectivity aspects for direct pyridine C-H functionalization.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by the accumulation of amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaques in the brain, contributing to neurodegeneration. This study investigates lipid alterations within these plaques using a novel, label-free, multimodal approach. Combining infrared (IR) imaging, machine learning, laser microdissection (LMD), and flow injection analysis mass spectrometry (FIA-MS), we provide the first comprehensive lipidomic analysis of chemically unaltered Aβ plaques in post-mortem human AD brain tissue.

A class of generated Lewis acid (LA) activated acridine complexes is reported, which act as potent photochemical catalysts for the oxidation of a variety of protected secondary amines. Acridine/LA complexes exhibit tunable excited state reduction potentials ranging from +2.07 to 2.

The group 1 alumanyls, [{SiN}AlM] (M = K, Rb, Cs; SiN = {CHSiMeNDipp}), display a variable kinetic facility (K < Rb < Cs) toward oxidative addition of the acidic C-H bond of terminal alkynes to provide the corresponding alkali metal hydrido(alkynyl)aluminate derivatives. Theoretical analysis of the formation of these compounds through density functional theory (DFT) calculations implies that the experimentally observed changes in reaction rate are a consequence of the variable stability of the [{SiN}AlM] dimers, the integrity of which reflects the ability of M to maintain the polyhapto group 1-arene interactions necessary for dimer propagation. These observations highlight that such "on-dimer" reactivity takes place sequentially and also that the ability of each constituent Al(I) center to effect the activation of the organic substrate is kinetically differentiated.

is a plant belonging to the Moraceae family. This study aimed to profile the functional groups using FTIR, as well as nutritional, elements using ICP-MS technique, and anti-nutritional analyses of leaves. The results of nutritional analysis of leaves revealed that the leaves had a diverse proximate composition with derived nutritional value to be 314.

We herein disclose a visible-light-induced synthesis of aryl esters through the cross-dehydrogenative coupling of aldehydes with phenols using BrCCl, in which phenolate functions as both a substrate and a photosensitizer. This transition-metal- and photocatalyst-free visible-light-induced esterification is suitable for a wide range of substrates and gives moderate to excellent yields (up to 95%). Mechanistic studies provided evidence of a self-propagating radical reaction involving homolytic cleavage of the aldehydic C-H bond and the formation of acyl bromides.
