Urban rail transit systems, represented by subways, have significantly alleviated the traffic pressure brought by urbanization and have addressed issues such as traffic congestion. However, as a commonly used construction method for subway tunnels, shield tunneling inevitably disturbs the surrounding soil, leading to uneven ground surface settlement, which can impact the safety of nearby buildings. Therefore, it is crucial to promptly obtain and predict the ground surface settlement induced by shield tunneling construction to enable safety warnings and evaluations.

Climate-driven distribution shifts of Iranian amphibians and identification of refugia and hotspots for effective conservation.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Faculty of Natural Resources, University of Jiroft, Jiroft, Iran.

This study investigates the potential impacts of climate change on the distribution of Iranian amphibian species and identifies refugia and biodiversity hotspots to inform effective conservation strategies. The study employed ensemble species distribution models to assess the impacts of climate change on 19 Iranian amphibian species. We analyzed future scenarios (2041-2060 & 2081-2100) under a high-emission pathway to identify potential range shifts and refugia (areas with stable or newly suitable climate).

Geopolymer concrete (GPC) offers a sustainable alternative by eliminating the need for cement, thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Using durable concrete helps prevent the corrosion of reinforcing bars and reduces spalling caused by chemical attacks. This study investigates the impact of adding 5, 10, and 15% silica fumes (SF) on the mechanical and durability properties of GPC cured at 60 °C for 24 h.

Treatment wetlands have emerged as a potential remediation option for oil-sands process affected waters (OSPW) which contains a suite of organic and inorganic constituents of potential concern. The aim of this study was to evaluate the fate of metals in a treatment wetland exposed to OSPW. Data was collected over three operational seasons testing freshwater and OSPW inputs at the Kearl Treatment Wetland in northern Alberta.

Introduction: Mortality and morbidity in persons with haemophilia (PWH) have decreased due to improved diagnosis and treatment along with comprehensive population outreach efforts, but the impact is not uniform in different countries.

Aim: The study aims to assess all-cause and intracranial haemorrhage (ICH)-specific mortality of PWH in India.

Methods: This is a retrospective, observational, multi-centric cohort study of 1020 haemophilia patients from three centres in India.
