Mpox (monkeypox) is an infection caused by the monkeypox virus, which belongs to the same family as the smallpox virus. Sporadic infections in humans have been known since the 1970s. Since spring 2022 there has been a global epidemic. The large majority of the mpox cases in the ongoing epidemic have been reported in adult men, the number of infected children is small. The typical manifestation of mpox includes a rash that initially presents as maculopapular lesions and then develops into vesicles and eventually crusts. Transmission of the virus primarily occurs through close contact with infected individuals, particularly through contact with unhealed blisters or wounds, as well as through sexual contacts and exposure to body fluids. In cases of documented close contact with an infected individual, post-exposure prophylaxis is recommended and may also be administered to children whose guardians have contracted mpox.

The widespread distribution and ecumenical abundance of the poultry red mite, Dermanyssus gallinae (De Geer), in chicken houses, has been bringing about one intractable challenge for the egg-laying hens. However, because of the appearance of drug resistance and the animal safety legislation, the search for some effective insecticidal agents is necessary. In the present investigation, the essential oil extracted from the tender shoots and young leaflets of Toona sinensis (Chinese toon, TSEO) were demonstrated to be not only display significant antioxidant effect, but also revealed prominent insecticidal activity against the poultry red mite.

Total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy is a powerful imaging technique that visualizes the outer surface of specimens in close proximity to a substrate, yielding crucial insights in cell membrane compositions. TIRF plays a key role in single-cell studies but typically requires chemical fixation to ensure direct contact between the cell membrane and substrate, which can compromise cell viability and promote clustering. In this study, we present a microfluidic device with structures designed to trap single yeast cells and fix them in direct contact with the substrate surface to enable TIRF measurements on the cell membrane.
