Introduction: For the microbiological diagnosis of bacteremia and fungemia, it is essential to use automated blood culture systems that guarantee good performance in the detection of microorganisms. We evaluated the BT24 system for blood cultures by comparing it with the BACTEC™ FX system in detection of positive spiked blood cultures (BC) and bottles, subsequent growth of the microorganism, and time to detection (TTD).
Methods: The parallel analysis of both systems was performed with 160 strains of 31 different species, each inoculated under the same conditions and simultaneously in six blood culture bottles.

Total volatile base nitrogen (TVB-N) is an important indicator for evaluating the freshness of aquatic products and holds great significance in assessing food safety. Traditional testing methods for TVB-N content use the Kjeldahl method, which has shortcomings like lengthy processes, cumbersome steps, and sample destruction. This study innovatively couples the hyperspectral imaging (HSI) technique with an odor imaging sensor (OIS) to achieve non-destructive prediction of TVB-N content in the large yellow croaker.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is characterized by its aggressive nature and dismal prognosis, largely attributed to its unique tumor microenvironment. However, the molecular mechanisms by which tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) promote PDAC progression, particularly the role of β-catenin signaling in regulating TAM phenotype and function, remain incompletely understood. Treating metastatic brain tumors remains a significant challenge. This study introduces and applies the Patient-Derived Tumor Spheroid (PDTS) system, an ex vivo model for precision drug testing on metastatic brain tumor. The PDTS system utilizes a decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) derived from adipose tissue, combined with the tumor cells, to form tumor spheroids.
