Indications and recipient outcomes of adult left lobe living donor liver transplantation.

Updates Surg

January 2025

Department of Pediatric Surgery and Transplantation, Kumamoto University Graduate School of Medical Sciences, 1-1-1, Honjo, Chuo-Ku, Kumamoto, 860-8556, Japan.

Adult left lobe living donor liver transplantation has long been practiced nearly exclusively in Japan. To overcome the potential risks of small-for-size syndrome and hepatic venous outflow obstruction associated with the use of left lobe grafts, center-specific countermeasures such as splenectomy, meticulous hepatic venous reconstruction, and inclusion of the caudate lobe have been implemented, resulting in short- and long-term results comparable with those of right lobe graft in high-volume centers. A recent systematic review and meta-analysis confirmed these observations; however, the indications and techniques of adult left lobe living donor liver transplantation have yet to be standardized.

Periductal fibroblasts participate in liver homeostasis, fibrosis, and tumorigenesis.

Hepatic fibroblasts comprise groups of stromal cells in the liver that are phenotypically distinct from hepatic stellate cells. However, their physiology is poorly understood. By single-cell RNA sequencing, we identified Cd34 and Dpt as hepatic fibroblast-specific genes.

Background: Deep learning image reconstruction (DLIR) algorithms allow strong noise reduction while preserving noise texture, which may potentially improve hypervascular focal liver lesions.

Purpose: To assess the impact of DLIR on image quality (IQ) and detectability of simulated hypervascular hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in fast kV-switching dual-energy CT (DECT).

Methods: An anthropomorphic phantom of a standard patient morphology (body mass index of 23 kg m) with customized liver, including mimickers of hypervascular lesions in both late arterial phase (AP) and portal venous phase (PVP) enhancement, was scanned on a DECT.

This study aims to evaluate two of the most commonly used products, the collagen-based patch (Hemopatch) and the micropolysaccharide microspheres powder (Perclot), in the context of stab liver injury in pigs. The objectives of this study were to assess blood loss at various time intervals up to 24 h, survival rates, and mean arterial pressure. The research involved 18 Large-White swine.

Aim And Background: A combination of terlipressin and albumin is the standard of care for patients with hepatorenal syndrome-acute kidney injury (HRS-AKI). The study aimed to compare the venous congestion using lung ultrasound score (LUS) and radiographic assessment of lung edema (RALE) scores among terlipressin responders and nonresponders and survivors and non-survivors.

Materials And Methods: In this single-center, prospective, observational study, we included adult patients with HRS-AKI who had received terlipressin and albumin from 28th April 2022 to 16th October 2022.
