Monkeypox is a zoonotic disease caused by the Monkeypox virus (MPXV) of the genus. The first human cases occurred in Africa in the 1970s and remained confined to the African continent for a long time until 2003, when several dozen cases occurred in the United States, following contamination by prairie dogs. Unprecedented transmission events have led to more than 80,000 reported cases worldwide between May 2022 and February 2023, primarily affecting men who have sex with men. The changing epidemiology of Mpox has raised concerns about its ability to become endemic beyond its traditional geographic areas. Confirmatory diagnosis is based on direct detection by molecular biology. Pre- or post-exposure smallpox vaccination was widely deployed in early summer 2022 to limit the spread of the disease. In case of severe forms, the use of antivirals can be considered, only tecovirimat being recommended in this indication. The current epidemic has had the merit of showing that a disease that was previously confined to regions of initial virus circulation can spread very rapidly in Western countries and of the need to reinforce the implementation of tools for the surveillance and control of communicable diseases.

Purpose: Acute hand infections (AHIs) remain a challenge for hand surgeons and represent a condition for which clinical outcomes are considerably affected by social barriers. We previously described the looped Penrose drainage technique, where a drain is sutured to itself in a loop and the outflow tract of egress is maintained, thus obviating the need for large incisions, wound closure, or repeat packing, thereby reducing the follow-up burden. In the face of escalating numbers of socioeconomically vulnerable patients, especially in urban settings, we aimed to characterize the clinical features and outcomes of this technique in an urban population of patients with AHI.

Syndromic primary hyperparathyroidism has several features in common: younger age at diagnosis when compared with sporadic primary hyperparathyroidism, often synchronous or metachronous multi-glandular involvement, higher possibility of recurrence, association with other endocrine or extra-endocrine disorders, and suggestive family background with autosomal dominant inheritance. Hyperparathyroidism in multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 is the most common syndromic hyperparathyroidism. It is often asymptomatic in adolescents and young adults, but may be responsible for recurrent lithiasis and/or bone loss.

Background: Drowning persists as a preventable pediatric cause of severe morbidity and mortality. This study aims to investigate the risk factors, circumstances, and medical consequences associated with pediatric drowning incidents in order to identify patterns that can inform targeted interventions.
Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of a cohort of pediatric drowning cases.

Each year, the American Cancer Society estimates the numbers of new cancer cases and deaths in the United States and compiles the most recent data on population-based cancer occurrence and outcomes using incidence data collected by central cancer registries (through 2021) and mortality data collected by the National Center for Health Statistics (through 2022). In 2025, 2,041,910 new cancer cases and 618,120 cancer deaths are projected to occur in the United States. The cancer mortality rate continued to decline through 2022, averting nearly 4.

Background: Few population-based studies have assessed sex differences in stroke recurrence. In addition, contributors to sex differences in recurrence and poststroke mortality, including social factors, are unclear. We investigated sex differences in these outcomes and the contribution of social, clinical, and behavioral factors to the sex differences.
