Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) battery has been considered as a potential next-era energy storage device. However, its practical application is limited by the volume change of sulfur and the shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides. To effectively overcome these issues, a hollow carbon decorated with cobalt nanoparticles and interconnected by nitrogen doped carbon nanotubes (Co-NCNT@HC) is developed for high-performance Li-S battery. The uniformly distributed nitrogen and cobalt nanoparticles in Co-NCNT@HC are able to enhance the chemical adsorption capability and fasten the transformation speed of the intermediates, thus effectively inhibit the loss of lithium polysulfides. Moreover, the hollow carbon spheres interconnected by carbon nanotubes are structurally stable and electrically conductive. Due to the unique structure, the Li-S battery enhanced by Co-NCNT@HC shows a high initial capacity of 1550 mAh/g at 0.1 A g. Even at a high current density of 2.0 A g, after 1000 cycles, it still maintains a capacity of 750 mAh/g with a capacity retention of 76.4% (the capacity decay rate is only 0.037% per cycle). This study provides a promising strategy for the development of high-performance Li-S batteries.

Nanotherapy has emerged as a promising strategy for the targeted and efficient treatment of melanoma, the most aggressive and lethal form of skin cancer, with minimized systemic toxicity. However, the therapeutic efficacy of cobalt oxide nanoparticles (CoONPs) in melanoma treatment remains unexplored. This study aimed to assess the therapeutic potential of CoONPs in melanoma treatment by evaluating their impact on cell viability, genomic DNA and mitochondrial integrity, reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and apoptosis induction in melanoma A-375 cells.

Emerging single-atom materials and metal sulfides hold significant promise as alternatives to precious metal catalysts for nitroaromatics conversion; however, their intrinsic activity and durability remain insufficiently understood. Herein, sulfur and nitrogen co-doped carbon matrices incorporating CoS nanoparticles and single-atom Co with Co-N-S coordination were constructed through a facile pyrolysis approach. Advanced characterization techniques, such as X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) and aberration-corrected electron microscopy, unveiled unique structural features underpinning exceptional catalytic efficiency and recyclability.

Innovative applications of cobalt tungstate nanoparticles (CoWO NPs) are directly linked to their increased production and consumption, which can consequently increase their release into aquatic ecosystems and the exposure of organisms. Microalgae are autotrophic organisms that contribute directly to global primary productivity and provide oxygen for maintaining many organisms on Earth. In this paper, we assessed the toxicity of CoWO NPs when in contact with the freshwater microalga Raphidocelis subcapitata (Chlorophyceae).
