In recent years, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become one of the greatest threats to human health. There is an urgent need to develop new antibacterial agents to effectively treat AMR infection. Herein, a novel nanozyme platform (Cu,N-GQDs@Ru-NO) is prepared, where Cu,N-doped graphene quantum dots (Cu,N-GQDs) are covalently functionalized with a nitric oxide (NO) donor, ruthenium nitrosyl (Ru-NO). Under 808 nm near-infrared (NIR) light irradiation, Cu,N-GQDs@Ru-NO demonstrates nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) dehydrogenase-like activity for photo-oxidizing NADH to NAD , thus disrupting the redox balance in bacterial cells and resulting in bacterial death; meanwhile, the onsite NIR light-delivered NO effectively eradicates the methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacterial and biofilms, and promotes wound healing; furthermore, the nanozyme shows excellent photothermal effect that enhances the antibacterial efficacy as well. With the combination of NADH dehydrogenase activity, photothermal therapy, and NO gas therapy, the Cu,N-GQDs@Ru-NO nanozyme displays both in vitro and in vivo excellent efficacy for MRSA infection and biofilm eradication, which provides a new therapeutic modality for effectively treating MRSA inflammatory wounds.

The sustainability of maize cultivation would benefit tremendously from early sowing, but is hampered by low temperatures during early development in temperate climates. We show that allelic variation within the gene encoding subunit M of the NADH-dehydrogenase-like (NDH) complex (ndhm1) in a European maize landrace affects several quantitative traits that are relevant during early development in cold climates through NDH-mediated cyclic electron transport around photosystem I, a process crucial for photosynthesis and photoprotection. Beginning with a genome-wide association study for maximum potential quantum yield of photosystem II in dark-adapted leaves (Fv/Fm), we capitalized on the large phenotypic effects of a hAT transposon insertion in ndhm1 on multiple quantitative traits (early plant height [EPH], Fv/Fm, chlorophyll content, and cold tolerance) caused by the reduced protein levels of NDHM and associated NDH components.

Background: NAD(P)-dependent steroid dehydrogenase-like protein (NSDHL), which is involved in breast tumor growth and metastasis, has been implicated in the maintenance of cancer stem cells. However, its role in regulating breast cancer stem-like cells (BCSCs) remains unclear. We have previously reported the clinical significance of NSDHL in patients with estrogen receptor-positive (ER +) breast cancer.

Unique structural attributes of the PSI-NDH supercomplex in Physcomitrium patens.

Cyclic electron transport around photosystem I (PSI) is essential for the protection of the photosynthetic apparatus in plants under diverse light conditions. This process is primarily mediated by Proton Gradient Regulation 5 protein/Proton Gradient Regulation 5-like photosynthetic phenotype 1 protein (PGR5/PGRL1) and NADH dehydrogenase-like complex (NDH). In angiosperms, NDH interacts with two PSI complexes through distinct monomeric antennae, LHCA5 and LHCA6, which is crucial for its higher stability under variable light conditions.

Surface Au-H Species as Self-Generated Prosthetic Groups of a Formate Dehydrogenase-like Au Nanozyme to Engineer Multienzymatic Activities.

Although the past decade has witnessed a rapid development of oxidoreductase-mimicking nanozymes, the mimicry of cofactors that play key roles in mediating electron and proton transfer remains limited. This study explores how surface Au-H species conjugated to Au nanoparticles (NPs) that imitate formate dehydrogenase (FDH) can serve as cofactors, analogous to NADH in natural enzymes, offering diverse possibilities for FDH-mimicking Au nanozymes to mimic various enzymes. Once O is present, Au-H species assist Au NPs to complete the on-demand HO generation for cascade reactions.
