Introduction: Infections forby spp. can lead to significant morbidity and mortality, particularly in immunocompromised patients with underlying co-morbidities. Recent reports have highlighted its intrinsic and acquired drug resistance, making it a particularly challenging infectious agent to combat.

Methods: spp. isolated and reported in clinically significant urine samples were considered for the study. Identification of the organism was done via the VITEK 2C system. Antibiotic susceptibility testing was done using both manual and automated methods following Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines. Existing literature was searched on MEDLINE using PubMed.

Results: We present a series of five catheter-associated urinary tract infections due to , with sensitivity to only minocycline. This is the first case from Western India, and the third case in the existing literature that shows sensitivity only to minocycline. Our literature review is the first to systematically describe contributory factors to infection, allowing us to devise a clinically relevant tool that delineates contributory factors and efficacious drugs in spp infection.

Conclusion: spp infections, previously considered rare and opportunistic, need cognizance and diagnostic suspicion especially in particular associated conditions.

Background: Trastuzumab deruxtecan (T-DXd) has shown promising activity in patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive breast cancer (BC) and central nervous system (CNS) involvement. In this updated meta-analysis, we explore the effectiveness of T-DXd in a large subset of patients with HER2-positive BC and CNS disease.

Methods: A systematic search was made on September 16th, 2024, for studies investigating T-DXd in the scenario of HER2-positive BC and brain metastases (BMs) and/or leptomeningeal disease (LMD).

The primary approach to assessing monitored natural attenuation (MNA) is currently based on a conceptual model utilizing the total contaminant concentrations, assuming a single aqueous species. However, many contaminants, such as metals and radionuclide - including iodine, can exist in multiple species that behave chemically differently in the environment and can exist simultaneously. For example, radioiodine often occurs concurrently as three major aqueous species: iodide (I), iodate (IO), and organo-I, which undergo distinct attenuation pathways and exhibit markedly different mobility and geochemical behavior.

Use of Cemented Hemiarthroplasty for Femoral Neck Fractures.

J Am Acad Orthop Surg Glob Res Rev

January 2025

From the Department of Orthopaedics, University of Missouri-Kansas City, Kansas City, MO (Dr. Amin, Dr. Krumme, Dr. Gause, Dr. Dubin, and Dr. Cil), and the Department of Orthopaedics, Kansas City Orthopaedic Alliance, Leawood, KS (Dr. Krumme).

Geriatric femoral neck fractures are common orthopaedic injuries, which are associated with a high morbidity and mortality. Arthroplasty is the optimum treatment for many of these injuries, but debate exists regarding optimal surgical strategy. Multiple recent investigations have demonstrated strong superiority for cemented stems as compared with noncemented fixation with a decreased risk of periprosthetic fracture, shorter length of stay, lower cost, and decreased rate for revision surgery.

Effectiveness of Synchronous Postdischarge Contacts on Health Care Use and Patient Satisfaction : A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Ann Intern Med

January 2025

Center of Innovation to Accelerate Discovery and Practice Transformation, Durham Veterans Affairs Health Care System; Department of Population Health Sciences, Duke University School of Medicine; and Durham Evidence Synthesis Program, Durham Veterans Affairs Health Care System, Durham, North Carolina (J.M.G.).

Background: Postdischarge contacts (PDCs) after hospitalization are common practice, but their effectiveness in reducing use of acute care after discharge remains unclear.

Purpose: To assess the effects of PDC on 30-day emergency department (ED) visits, 30-day hospital readmissions, and patient satisfaction.

Data Sources: MEDLINE, Embase, and CINAHL searched from 2012 to 25 May 2023.
