The efficiency of UV-activated sodium percarbonate (SPC) and sodium hypochlorite (SHC) in Norfloxacin (Norf) removal from an aqueous solution was assessed. Control experiments were conducted and the synergistic effect of the UV-SHC and UV-SPC processes were 0.61 and 2.89, respectively. According to the first-order reaction rate constants, the process rates were ranked as UV-SPC > SPC > UV and UV-SHC > SHC > UV. Central composite design was applied to determine the optimum operating conditions for maximum Norf removal. Under optimum conditions (UV-SPC: 1 mg/L initial Norf, 4 mM SPC, pH 3, 50 min; UV-SHC: 1 mg/L initial Norf, 1 mM SHC, pH 7, 8 min), the removal yields for the UV-SPC and UV-SHC were 71.8 and 72.1%, respectively. HCO, Cl, NO, and SO negatively affected both processes. UV-SPC and UV-SHC processes were effective for Norf removal from aqueous solution. Similar removal efficiencies were obtained with both processes; however, this removal efficiency was achieved in a much shorter time and more economically with the UV-SHC process.

The objective was to compare differences in reproductive performance for dairy cows grouped based on the combination of data for predictors available during the prepartum period and before the end of the voluntary waiting period (VWP), automated estrus alerts (AEA) during the VWP, and the combination of both factors. In a cohort study, data for AEA and potential predictors of the percentage of cows that receive AI at detected estrus (AIE), pregnancies per AI (P/AI) for first service, and the percentage of cows pregnant by 150 DIM (P150) were collected from -21 to 49 DIM for lactating Holstein cows (n = 886). The association between each reproductive outcome with calving season (cool, warm), calving-related events (yes, no), genomic daughter pregnancy rate (gDPR; high, medium, low), days in the close-up pen (ideal, not ideal), health disorder events (yes, no), rumination time (high or low CV prepartum and high or low increase rate postpartum), and milk yield (MY) by 49 DIM (high, medium, low) were evaluated in univariable and multivariable logistic regression models.

g-CN/ZnCdS composites were synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method. The composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and electron micro-projective microscopy. According to the performance of ZnCdS for the photocatalytic degradation of norfloxacin under visible light in water, the best stoichiometric number of x was 0.

College of Engineering (Key Laboratory for Clean Renewable Energy Utilization Technology, Ministry of Agriculture), China Agricultural University, Beijing 100083, PR China.

Combined veterinary antibiotics (CVAs) belonging to different antibiotics classes could cause exacerbated impacts on the anaerobic digestion (AD) process of swine manure. Four different antibiotics "two tetracyclines: tetracycline (TC) and oxytetracycline (OTC), one fluoroquinolones: norfloxacin (Norf), and one sulfonamides: sulfadiazine (SDZ)" were combined to evaluate their removal performances and its inhibition effects on AD. Results indicated that CVAs removal decreased from 84.

Mediterranean coastal regions are particularly exposed to oil pollution due to extensive industrialization, urbanization and transport of crude and refined oil to and from refineries. Bioremediation of contaminated beach sand through landfarming is both simple and cost-effective to implement compared to other treatment technologies. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of alternative nutrients on biodegradation of crude oil contaminated beach sand in an effort to reduce the time required for bioremediation employing only indigenous hydrocarbon degraders.
