This study aims to characterize the clinical and metabolic features of acute gastroenteritis in children with and without severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). A multicenter case-control study was conducted in 2022 including 200 children. Clinical data and laboratory tests were analyzed. Children with SARS-CoV-2 presented less frequently hyponatremia and metabolic acidosis, but more often systemic inflammation as compared with children without SARS-CoV-2.

Sepsis is a state of systemic immune dysregulation and organ failure that is frequently associated with severe brain disability. Epidemiological studies have indicated that younger females have better prognosis and clinical outcomes relative to males, though the sex-dependent response of the brain to sepsis during post-sepsis recovery remains largely uncharacterized. Using a modified polymicrobial intra-abdominal murine model of surgical sepsis, we characterized the acute effects of intra-abdominal sepsis on peripheral inflammation, brain inflammation and brain functional connectivity in young adult mice of both sexes.

Methods: Case report with multimodal ocular imaging and extensive systemic workup.
Results: A 16-year-old female with Turner syndrome presented with acute bilateral vision loss, hearing loss, and ataxia.
