AI Article Synopsis

  • Oilseed rape is a key oil crop, and improving its seed yield (SY) is a primary goal in breeding efforts, backed by genetic research.
  • A genome-wide association study (GWAS) identified 1,773 significant single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) related to SY from a panel of 403 natural accessions.
  • Two candidate genes linked to SY were identified, offering insights for future breeding of high-yield cultivars in oilseed rape.

Article Abstract

Unlabelled: Oilseed rape ( L.) is one of the most essential oil crops. Genetic improvement of seed yield (SY) is a major aim of breeding. Several studies have been reported on the genetic mechanisms of SY of Here, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of SY was conducted using a panel of 403 natural accessions of , with more than five million high-quality single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). A total of 1773 significant SNPs were detected associated with SY, and 783 significant SNPs were co-located with previously reported QTLs. The lead SNPs chrA01__8920351 and chrA02__4555979 were jointly detected in Trial 2_2 and Trial 2_mean value, and in Trial 1_2 and Trial 1_mean value, respectively. Subsequently, two candidate genes of and were identified through combining transcriptome, candidate gene association analysis, and haplotype analysis. detected through lead SNP chrA09__5160639 was associated with SY of . Our results provide valuable information for studying the genetic control of seed yield in and valuable genes, haplotypes, and cultivars resources for the breeding of high seed yield cultivars.

Panicle elongation length (PEL), which determines panicle exsertion, is an important outcrossing-related trait. Mining genes controlling PEL in rice (Oryza sativa L.) has great practical significance in breeding cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) lines with increased PEL and simplified, high-efficiency seed production.

Bacterial biofilms formed by and pose significant challenges in treating cystic fibrosis (CF) airway infections due to their resistance to antibiotics. New therapeutic approaches are urgently needed to treat these chronic infections. This study aimed to investigate the antibiofilm potential of various plant extracts, specifically targeting mucoid and small colony variants of and and strains.

A Game of Life with dormancy.

The factors contributing to the persistence and stability of life are fundamental for understanding complex living systems. Organisms are commonly challenged by harsh and fluctuating environments that are suboptimal for growth and reproduction, which can lead to extinction. Many species contend with unfavourable and noisy conditions by entering a reversible state of reduced metabolic activity, a phenomenon known as dormancy.

Oryza sativa is one of the most important crops and a food source for billions of people. Anthropic global warming, soil erosion, and unstable environmental conditions affect both its vegetative and reproductive growth, and consequently the final yield of its cultivation. The reproductive phase starts with the transition of apical meristem from vegetative to reproductive, which develops into a panicle, proceeds through the differentiation of the floret, and, after fertilization, the filling of the grain.

Objective: Early diagnosis of primary and metastatic lung nodules is critical for effective therapeutic planning. Manual delineation of lung nodules is not time-efficient and is prone to human error as well as interobserver and intraobserver variability. This study aimed to address the unmet need for an open-source computer-aided detection (CAD) system for 3D segmentation of lung and metastatic lung nodules along with radiomic feature extraction.
