Introduction: Allergic conjunctivitis is one of the most common non-traumatic extraocular inflammatory diseases.

Aim: The comparison of olopatadine with ketotifen remains elusive for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis, and this meta-analysis aims to explore the impact of olopatadine versus ketotifen on treatment efficacy for allergic conjunctivitis.

Material And Methods: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, EBSCO, and Cochrane library databases were systematically searched, and we included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the effect of olopatadine versus ketotifen on efficacy in patients with allergic conjunctivitis. Seven RCTs were included in the meta-analysis.

Results: Overall, compared with ketotifen intervention for allergic conjunctivitis, olopatadine intervention was associated with substantially lower hyperaemia (mean difference (MD) = -0.77; 95% confidence interval (CI) = -1.24 to -0.30; = 0.001), but demonstrated no significant impact on itching, tearing or papillae.

Conclusions: These suggested that olopatadine may be more effective to relieve the symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis than ketotifen.

Background: Asthma is a common chronic disease, and asthma control is the major therapeutic objective, thus ensuring a good health-related quality of life. This study aimed to evaluate the level of asthma control in a sample of asthmatic patients followed in allergology consultation during our training using the asthma control test (ACT) and its correlation with other parameters.

Methodology: This is a cross-sectional study of 66 asthmatic patients who were followed in pulmonology consultation at Agadir University Hospital after completing the asthma control test questionnaire over 6 months (June to December 2021).

Introduction: It is unclear to compare the efficacy of alcaftadine versus olopatadine for patients with allergic conjunctivitis, and this meta-analysis aims to perform the comparative assessment of their efficacy for allergic conjunctivitis.

Methods: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, EBSCO, and Cochrane library databases, and included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing alcaftadine with olopatadine for allergic conjunctivitis. The random-effect model was used for the significant heterogeneity, and otherwise the fixed-effect model was used.

Meibomian gland alterations in allergic conjunctivitis: insights from a novel quantitative analysis algorithm.

Front Cell Dev Biol

January 2025

Fujian Provincial Hospital, Shengli Clinical Medical College of Fujian Medical University, Fuzhou University Affiliated Provincial Hospital, Fuzhou, China.

Purpose: To investigate the changes in meibomian gland (MG) structure in allergic conjunctivitis (AC) patients using an intelligent quantitative analysis algorithm and to explore the relationship between these changes and clinical parameters.

Methods: A total of 252 eyes from patients with AC and 200 eyes from normal controls were examined. Infrared meibography was performed using the non-contact mode of the Keratograph 5M.
