Published: June 2023

Hybrid breeding can help us to meet the challenge of feeding a growing world population with limited agricultural land. The demand for soybean is expected to grow; however, the hybrid soybean is still in the process of commercialization even though considerable progress has been made in soybean genome and genetic studies in recent years. Here, we summarize recent advances in male sterility-based breeding programs and the current status of hybrid soybean breeding. A number of male-sterile lines with cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS), genic-controlled photoperiod/thermo-sensitive male sterility, and stable nuclear male sterility (GMS) have been identified in soybean. More than 40 hybrid soybean varieties have been bred using the CMS three-line hybrid system and the cultivation of hybrid soybean is still under way. The key to accelerating hybrid soybean breeding is to increase the out-crossing rate in an economical way. This review outlines current problems with the hybrid soybean breeding systems and explores the current efforts to make the hybrid soybean a commercial success.

Background: Plant senescence is the process of physiological maturation of plants and is important for crop yield and quality. Senescence is controlled by several factors, such as temperature and photoperiod. However, the molecular basis by which these genes promote senescence in soybeans is not well understood.

Design and experimental study of tillage depth control system for electric rotary tiller based on LADRC.

Sci Rep

The Key Laboratory for Agricultural Machinery Intelligent Control and Manufacturing of Fujian Education Institutions, Wuyi University, Nanping, 354300, Fujian, China.

This paper proposes an adaptive real-time tillage depth control system for electric rotary tillers, based on Linear Active Disturbance Rejection Control (LADRC), to improve tillage depth accuracy in tea garden intercropping with soybeans. The tillage depth control system comprises a body posture sensor, a control unit, and a hybrid stepper motor, integrating sensor data to drive the motor and achieve precise depth control. Real-time displacement sensor signals are compared with target values, enabling closed-loop control of the rotary tiller.

The pursuit of multifunctional soybean protein isolate (SPI)-based adhesives with high strength, water resistance, and resistance to mildew and flame remains a formidable scientific challenge. Inspired by mussels, in this work, quaternary ammonium salted hyperbranched polyamide (QHBPA) and polydopamine (PDA) were incorporated onto the surface of MXene. The synthesized hybrid material, namely Q-MXene, accompanied with phosphorylated chitosan (PCS), was subsequently integrated into the SPI-based adhesive to synergistically improve its performance via organic-inorganic hybridization techniques.
