In the present study, porcine-derived collagen type I was covalently immobilized on the surface of titanium (Ti) implants via carboxyl groups introduced by bonded p-vinylbenzoic acid to investigate its in vitro biocompatibility with gingival stem cells and in vivo bone regeneration behavior in the edentulous ridges of Lanyu small-ear pigs at weeks 2 and 6 (short-term effectiveness) through micro-computed tomography and histological analysis. Analytical results found that gingival stem cells showed effective adhesion and spreading on these collagen-immobilized implant surfaces. After 2 and 6 weeks of healing, significant differences in Hounsfield units were observed among the control (week 2 (674.

Background: Current guidelines recommend transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for patients with aortic stenosis and porcelain aorta (PA). Neurological outcomes of patients with PA undergoing TAVI with modern valves require clarification as most trials examined balloon-expandable valves (BEV) and self-expandable valves in intermediate or high-risk patients, but not specifically in patients with PA. Our aim was to compare outcomes, including stroke and mortality, in well-matched patients with and without PA who received BEV during transfemoral TAVI procedures.

Background Embryo implantation and early survival in a synchronized, receptive endometrium are critical for establishing a successful pregnancy, but uterine pathologies can present challenges to reproductive success by significantly impacting this complex process. Objectives The purpose of this review is to analyze the impact of uterine pathologies on embryo implantation, early embryo survival, and finally on the development of infertility, with references to reproductive outcomes and the main evidence related to therapeutic strategies. Methods The relevant publications were identified after queries of the following sources: PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science, and publishers' databases, complemented by a cross-check of the reference lists.

Precise measurements of fundamental decay data such as energies and transition probabilities of radioactive isotopes are important for the development of corresponding nuclear modelling, activity determination and various applications in science and technology. The EMPIR project PrimA-LTD -"Towards new Primary Activity standardisation methods based on Low-Temperature Detectors" - aims to measure the electron-capture decay of Fe very precisely using Metallic Microcalorimeters (MMCs) with outstandingly high energy resolution. Using a high-statistics measurement, electron-capture probabilities shall be precisely determined and higher-order effects such as electron shake-up and shake-off shall be examined with unprecedented precision.

Effects of Chemical Pretreatments of Wood Cellulose Nanofibrils on Protein Adsorption and Biological Outcomes.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

Center of Translational Oral Research (TOR), Department of Clinical Dentistry, University of Bergen, Bergen 5009, Norway.

Wood-based nanocellulose is emerging as a promising nanomaterial in the field of tissue engineering due to its unique properties and versatile applications. Previously, we used TEMPO-mediated oxidation (TO) and carboxymethylation (CM) as chemical pretreatments prior to mechanical fibrillation of wood-based cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) to produce scaffolds with different surface chemistries. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the effects of these chemical pretreatments on serum protein adsorption on 2D and 3D configurations of TO-CNF and CM-CNF and then to investigate their effects on cell adhesion, spreading, inflammatory mediator production , and the development of foreign body reaction (FBR) .
