A total of 72 specimens of (Kessler, 1857), (Pallas, 1814), and (Pallas, 1814) from four sampling sites along the Bulgarian section of the Danube River (Kudelin, Novo selo, Koshava, and Kutovo), Northwestern Bulgaria were submitted to ecologohelminthological investigation. During the examination 6 species of helminths have been identified from 3 classes: Trematoda ( (Iwanitzky, 1928) Dollfus, 1960), Acanthocephala ( (Müller, 1780) Lühe, 1911; (Müller, 1776) Lühe, 1911; (Zoega in Müller, 1776) Porta, 1908) and Nematoda ( sp., Jägerskiöld, 1909). Ecological indices of the established endohelminth species were tracked. The four sampling sites from the Danube River are new habitats for the discovered endohelminth species of racer goby, monkey goby, and round goby. The three goby species are new host records: and for ; for , and sp. New species of helminths are found in the helminth fauna of the three studied species of gobies from the Danube River and the river basin ( of ) and in Bulgaria ( of ; , and sp. of ). The pathogenic species helminths for the fish and humans are found.

The existing technologies in municipal wastewater treatment plants are ineffective in eliminating persistent fluorine-containing contaminants. At the same time, there is an increasing demand for novel organofluorine compounds, particularly in the production of lithium-ion batteries, as well as in the agrochemical and pharmaceutical sectors for more efficient ingredients. This implies that we must account for ongoing changes in the fluorine levels within riverine environments.

Bioindicators are living organisms that are successfully used for monitoring changes in the environmental health due to natural and/or anthropogenic influences. Dragonflies (Odonata) are considered to be good indicators of water quality; however, research on dragonflies as potential indicators of radioactivity is scarce. The aim of this study was to evaluate dragonflies as potential biological indicators of ionising radiation in nature by measuring Cs activity concentrations in the dragonfly and river water samples.

Using a Taguchi experimental design, this research focuses on utilizing indigenous bacteria from the Danube River to enhance the self-healing capabilities and structural integrity of cementitious materials. and were used as individual bacterium or in co-culture, with a concentration of 8 logs CFU, while the humidity variation involved testing wet and wet-dry conditions. Additionally, artificial neural network (ANN) modeling of the compressive strength of cement samples results in improvements in compressive strength, particularly under wet-dry conditions.

This study intends to assess the extent of the occurrence of CECs in different water types based on the literature data reported for the countries from a lower part of the Middle Danube Basin, including those belonging to the Western Balkan (WB) region and two upstream neighboring EU Member States, Croatia and Slovenia. These countries share main freshwater courses important for drinking water supply, agriculture, industry, navigation, tourism, etc, but in some of them there are low rate of wastewater treatment, impacting the chemical status of water resources in the region and probably beyond, if downstream countries are considered. The literature survey revealed 38 investigative studies reporting data on CECs in water matrices sampled in the region in the period 2008-2022.
