In the present work, a study about the electrochemical and photoelectrochemical degradation of an emerging pollutant using an Sb-doped SnO anode coated with a photocatalytic layer of BiPO has been performed. The electrochemical characterization of the material was carried out by means of linear sweep voltammetry, light-pulsed chronoamperometry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. These studies confirmed that the material is photoactive at intermediate potential values (around 2.5 V), and that the charge transfer resistance decreases in the presence of light. A positive effect of the illuminated area on the degradation degree of norfloxacin was observed: at 15.50 mA cm, the degradation rate was 83.37% in the absence of light, 92.24% with an illuminated area of 5.7 cm, and it increased up to 98.82% with an illuminated area of 11.4 cm. The kinetics of the process were evaluated, and the by-products of the degradation were identified by ion chromatography and HPLC. In the case of the mineralization degree, the effect of light is less significant, especially at higher current densities. The specific energy consumption of the process was lower in the photoelectrochemical experiments as compared to the experiments in dark conditions. At intermediate current densities (15.50 mA cm) a decrease in energy consumption of 53% was achieved by illuminating the electrode.

Purpose: RVVC is defined as four or more episodes of candidiasis in a 12-month period. Conventional treatment is complex and often involves long-term medication use or multiple treatments. ABL therapy is a promising treatment option as it is acceptable to women and has only rare side effects.

One of the most frequently impacted locations by psoriasis is the scalp. It is seen in about 80% of psoriasis cases worldwide, and its treatment is challenging. To compare the efficacy and safety of excimer light versus topical methotrexate (MTX) 1% hydrogel in treatment of scalp psoriasis.

Exciton emitters in two-dimensional monolayer transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) provide a boulevard for the emerging optoelectronic field, ranging from miniaturized light-emitting diodes to quantum emitters and optical communications. However, the low quantum efficiency from limited light-matter interactions and harmful substrate effects seriously hinders their applications. In this work, we achieve a ∼438-fold exciton photoluminescence enhancement by constructing a Fabry-Pérot cavity consisting of monolayer WS and a micron-scale hole on the SiO/Si substrate.

Land use and cover changes lead to fragmentation of the natural habitats of sand flies and modify the epidemiological profile of leishmaniasis. This process contributes to the infestation of adjacent rural settlements by vector sand fly species with different degrees of adaptation, promoting leishmaniasis outbreaks. This study aimed to assess land use and cover changes over a 12-year period and investigate the diversity and abundance of sand fly assemblages in the rural area of Codó, Maranhão State, Brazil.

Introduction: Young-onset neurocognitive symptoms result from a heterogeneous group of neurological and psychiatric disorders which present a diagnostic challenge. To identify such factors, we analysed the Biomarkers in Younger-Onset Neurocognitive Disorders cohort, a study of individuals <65 years old presenting with neurocognitive symptoms for a diagnosis and who have undergone cognitive and biomarker analyses.
Methods: Sixty-five participants (median age at assessment of 56 years, 45% female) were recruited during their index presentation to the Royal Melbourne Hospital Neuropsychiatry Centre, a tertiary specialist service in Melbourne, Australia, and categorized as either early-onset Alzheimer's disease ( = 18), non-Alzheimer's disease neurodegeneration ( = 23) or primary psychiatric disorders ( = 24).
